Despite the drastic time difference, we managed to catch up with Simon Giles, manager of the Department of Defence Publishing Service in Melbourne, Australia, to learn how his in-plant is coping during the COVID-19 crisis.
With the Australian military now helping police keep people off the streets, the in-plant is doing a lot of printing to support this mandatory stay-at-home effort. As part of its strategy to assure work continuity during the crisis, the in-plant has secluded a team in a separate facility so they can step in quickly if a worker in the main plant becomes sick and that staff must go into isolation.
In the midst of all this, Giles is also coordinating the installation of a new fleet of equipment in May, slightly handicapped by the supplier’s inability to tour the facility.
