Government In-plants: A Closer Look

The government sector of the in-plant industry differs from the rest of the industry in a few notable (and sometimes surprising) ways.
- The average employee count is nearly twice as high (26 versus 14), due to some very large government printing operations.
- A larger percentage of government in-plants (51.4%) say they are “self-supported” than in the industry at large, where 42.4% made that claim.
- And insourcing is more popular at government in-plants, where 62.5% say they do this, compared to 57.5% of the entire in-plant community.
To get a deeper look inside the government sector of the industry, we took our “Trends and Services in the In-plant Industry” report, published earlier this year, and looked only at the responses from state and local government in-plants. Comparing this data to our full industry report, we uncovered a number of differences.
