A sheetfed offset press is a big purchase for any in-plant. We talked with four managers who purchased presses in the past couple years to find out how they evaluated equipment, what they learned from the buying process and whether their press is working out as planned.

An accident at an xpedx facility in Pewaukee, Wis., this week left a 52-year-old man dead after he was trapped under a five-foot stack of paper. The TMJ4 website reported that Andrew Blechacz, of Waukesha, was working inside the warehouse when a shelving unit stacked full of pallets of copy paper collapsed, according to the Waukesha County Sherif's Department.

xpedx recently began servicing customers in Tampa, Orlando and all of northern, central and western Florida from a new 200,000-sq.ft. mega-distribution center located in Lakeland, FL. Its sales and customer service offices remain in Tampa and Orlando.

Last month, about 30 in-plant managers from universities all over the southern U.S. got together in Nashville for the 36th annual Southeastern University Printing and Digital Managers Conference (SUPDMC). A new IPG video offers a close-up view of the event, showing the attendees, vendors and presentations.

On Wednesday, xpedx announced its decision to close its Canadian locations by year's end. The facilities supply printing papers and graphic supplies to printers in Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton.

ANY TIME in-plant managers get together, the conversation and camaraderie never end. This was particularly true at the recent Southeastern University Printing and Digital Managers Conference (SUPDMC). About 30 in-plant managers from universities all over the southern U.S. and as far away as the state of Washington got together in Nashville, Tenn., to exchange information and listen to presentations to help them tune up their operations.

In October, the 36th annual Southeastern University Printing and Digital Managers Conference took place in Nashville, Tenn. Host Jack Williams, of the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, welcomed more than 30 higher-ed in-plant managers from all over the southern U.S. and as far away as the state of Washington.
