Insurance is all about planning ahead. As the in-plant for one of the largest health insurers in the United States, Highmark's Corporate Printing Services (CPS) operation recently executed well-planned facilities and technology upgrades that leave it extremely well-positioned for the future.
A recent Xerox blog post examines the pros and cons of obtaining the right of first refusal for your in-plant. Also called "centralized print management," this is when all print work in an organization is mandated to go to the in-plant, and the manager will decide which work it will do and which jobs are better suited to an outside printer.
In-plant Graphics is hosting a free in-plant luncheon on Monday, September 9, at PRINT 13, just for in-plants. IPG Editor Bob Neubauer will offer his thoughts on the in-plant industry and give attendees an opportunity to discuss issues they are facing and services they are adding.

As Print Shop Manager for Richland School District, Rachelle Palmer knew there was room for improvement in the way her Richland, Wash., district was handling printing. "The current system was just not keeping up with increasing volumes and the changing needs of the staff," remarks Palmer.
Sales were up slightly for Xerox Corp. in its most-recent quarter, but profits dropped and the company, which has been cutting its headcount, plans to trim even more. The company’s growth in recent years, as well as in that most recent quarter, came from the business services side of the company.
