With equipment specs, pictures and video all available online, why should an in-plant manager bother going to Graph Expo any more? Those who made the trip to Chicago last month have lots of good reasons.
One of the many survivors of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing was Gillian Reny, daughter of Steven Reny, president of Standard Finishing Systems, based in Andover, Mass. Reny, who at the time was an 18-year-old high school senior and aspiring dancer, was among numerous people who were treated at Brigham and Women's Hospital.
The official numbers aren't in yet, but the crowds at this week's Graph Expo show in Chicago seemed larger than in previous years. Those who attended certainly had a number of new products to check out. Here are just a few of the new machines unveiled at Graph Expo.
At this year's Graph Expo, Standard will showcase 4,800 square-feet of postpress and paper handling solutions and unveil its line of Horizon Rotary Die Cutters to the North American market. Live demonstrations will show how users can produce a comprehensive range of finished products.
These products for the in-plant market will be on display at Graph Expo.
Cincinnati-based Fifth Third Bank has a robust print and mail operation. "We're a 24/7 shop, and we produce approximately 170 million impressions a year, which equates to 70 million pieces of mail," reports Mark Kearns, vice president, Print & Mail Services. "We produce all of our customer correspondence, from customers' account statements to bank card statements to mortgage notices—all of our products across the enterprise."
With traditional offset exhibitors like Heidelberg giving the Chicago trade show a pass, the digital print vendors were the new kings. Xerox, Canon, Konica Minolta and Fujifilm led the pack in booth size, and each of them had new inkjet production presses to proclaim.
