Presstek, Inc., a leading supplier of digital offset printing solutions to the printing and communications industries, today announced that a Presstek 75DI five-color digital offset press has been sold in the Europe/Africa/Middle East Region for installation in the 4th quarter of 2011.

At the beginning of 2011, the in-plant at U.K.-based University of Essex, in Wivenhoe Park, rebranded itself as Print Essex. The 13-employee shop then strategically targeted a broader range of customers including those in the commercial market.
Presstek Inc. announced that its portfolio of DI digital offset presses, CTP systems and plates, press room supplies and service offerings will be represented at GRAPH EXPO 2011, scheduled for Sept. 11-14, 2011, at McCormick Place in Chicago. Presstek will be located in Booth 3200 at the front of the South Hall.
When Graph Expo 2011 kicks off in Chicago on September 11, in-plant managers who walk the floor at McCormick Place will notice one big difference from last year: the resurgence of offset printing. True, there were presses at last year's show, most notably in Presstek's booth. But three offset giants—Heidelberg USA, Komori America and Mitsubishi Lithographic Presses—all chose to sit that show out.
Quad/Graphics will be purchasing a five-color Presstek 75DI digital offset press with an in-line aqueous coater. “Quad/Graphics is well aware that there is strong market demand for high-quality, short-run, fast-turnaround color printing,” said Joe Demharter, Presstek’s vice president of sales.
Now in its 18th year, the On Demand Conference and Exposition tried something new this time when it moved south of the Mason-Dixon line to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. Not everyone was happy with the results. Though some exhibits were packed at intervals, others were not so busy. Perhaps the absence of key companies like Xerox, Kodak, Presstek and Standard caused some potential attendees to skip this year's event. Or maybe D.C. was too far for the Northeast day trippers who attended previous years' shows in Philadelphia, Boston and New York.
Presstek Inc. has appointed three new sales representatives to augment its Western Region sales organization. Kurt Curtis, Owen R. Ryan and Wayne Fleshman are now responsible for selling Presstek's capital equipment and thermal plates, including chemistry-free Aurora EXP plates and the Presstek 75DI digital offset press.
Jimmy Friend didn't want a new offset press. "We thought that we would not invest in offset in the future," reveals Friend, director of University of North Texas Printing Services. His 40-employee in-plant had two HP Indigo digital presses, and was getting good prices for long-run offset jobs from outside printers. Why rock the boat?
The definition of bittersweet, from a printer's perspective, is saying goodbye to a timeless but antiquated craft in favor of a more automated, and precise, process driven by computer software.
BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee has placed an order for a Presstek 75DI digital offset press. BlueCross plans to utilize the four-color 75DI with aqueous coater to produce many of its own marketing materials and business communications.
