Washington State University Honored for Management Excellence

Washington State University Publishing has earned the In-Plant Printing and Mailing Association's Management Award for using efficient management practices to further the objectives of the university. "Our staff was very pleased to receive this acknowledgement from our peers," says Steven F. Rigby, director of Printing at the Pullman-based in-plant. "It is always rewarding to know that our teamwork and sound management practices have not gone unnoticed."

Océ Supports Evolving Newspaper Market as a Sponsor of Third Individuated Newspaper Conference

Future Authors Selected for Fourth Annual Summer Writing Workshop

The School District of Palm Beach County and Océ North America announced today the selection of nearly 60 middle and high school students to participate in the 2009 Océ Future Authors Project. About 15 of the students will be participating from Glades Central High School through distance learning technology. Seven graduates of the program will be returning as mentors.

ACUP Webinar Draws Large Crowd

DESPITE THE cancellation of the ACUP conference, ACUP lived on this year in a Webinar that attracted more than 100 in-plant managers from around the world. IPG partnered with the Association of College and University Printers to bring about the event, held on what would have been the last day of the ACUP conference. Three of the speakers who were scheduled to talk at ACUP gave their presentations online. Then, to replicate some of the free-flowing shop talk that is ACUP's hallmark, three past ACUP hosts held a lively roundtable discussion about the latest developments in their shops.

Philadelphia was the digital printing capital of the country this week, as the AIIM/On Demand Show brought thousands of printers and manufacturers to IPG's hometown. Among them were scores of in-plant managers from around the country.

IPG Editor Bob Neubauer ran into managers from Temple University, Penn State, The Hershey Co., Securian Financial Group, University of Delaware, The National Board of Medical Examiners, and many other organizations as he walked the show floor. Bucknell University brought a half dozen in-plant staff members on a bus from Lewisburg, Pa.

As companies and organizations catch “the green wave” and start looking for ways to improve their sustainability, they rely heavily on the initiatives of their individual departments. In-plants can play a major part in the overall green success of their organizations. One in-plant that’s leading the way is the Reprographics department at the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE), the nation’s largest regional education agency. Thanks to an equipment upgrade, the shop’s Océ digital printers now reportedly discharge up to 90 percent less ground-level ozone, consume up to 45 percent less energy and emit a much lower operating noise level than ever before.
