Continuous-feed production inkjet is an exciting, evolving market. Average annual growth since 2010 has been at 93 percent, according to IT Strategies; in 2013 alone, 146 billion pages were printed globally with continuous-feed inkjet. Market-Intell estimates that this represents 350,000 tons of paper in North America in 2013.
Continuous-feed inkjet offers advantages over both offset and electrophotography. As the technology evolves, it is gaining share from both. The presses are good. The substrates are good. The software is good. And, as Cathy Cartolano, vice president of sales and technical services at Mitsubishi Imaging (MPM), points out, image quality is "scary close" to offset.

in 2008, Yale University decided to begin construction of a new Yale School of Management. Yale Printing & Publishing Services was located in a building that was scheduled for demolition. To determine whether outsourcing made sense, the university did a complete financial review of the in-plant. The study revealed that it would be more costly to close the shop and outsource than to move it.
Mitsubishi Imaging will host an Open House Customer Event Day for small-format printers next Thursday, March 29, in Rye, N.Y. It will take place in its Demonstration and Training Center from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Mitsubishi Imaging has appointed Takefumi Suzuki to the role of president and CEO of Mitsubishi Imaging (MPM), Inc. Mr. Suzuki joined Mitsubishi Paper Mills Ltd. in 1972 and has held key executive positions ever since. Most recently he served as director and managing executive officer of Mitsubishi Paper Mills Ltd. and as a board member of Mitsubishi Imaging.

It's hard to believe, but Graph Expo will begin in just nine days. Though the absence of such regulars as Heidelberg and Komori has been duly noted, the graphic arts trade show will still be bursting with new technologies for in-plants to peruse.
