At Graph Expo, digital press vendors highlighted their workflow and digital front end capabilities, enabling everything from transpromotional and variable data printing to ganging of smaller jobs into longer production runs. The emphasis was on automation, personalization and run-length optimization.

Fujifilm will show the J Press 720 inkjet press. Heidelberg will present Prinect Digital Workflow Integration. New features for the Kodak NexPress platform will be shown.

The Printing Division of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake City has earned the prestigious 2012 IPMA Management Award. This is presented by the In-Plant Printing and Mailing Association annually to an outstanding corporate publishing and distribution operation that excels in efficient management practices to further the objectives of its parent organization.

Digital inkjet printers on display seemingly everywhere, let alone all the buzz surrounding Benny Landa and his Nanographic Printing process, may have captured many of the headlines during drupa 2012, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t a host of new lithographic press introductions, technology demonstrations and productivity enhancements shown within the stands of traditional press manufacturers.

Taking place only once every four years, the drupa international printing trade fair is a huge show. By the time it wrapped up its two-week stint in Düsseldorf, Germany, last month 314,500 visitors from more than 130 countries had walked its 19 halls and visited its 1,850 exhibitors.

In the days leading up to drupa, which began yesterday in Dusseldorf, Germany, Landa Corp., led by Indigo founder Benny Landa, announced three strategic partnerships with three leading offset press manufacturers. Komori, manroland and Heidelberg will all collaborate on the development of printing presses using Landa's new Nanographic digital printing process.

After opening its 19 halls to the public yesterday, drupa 2012 is in full swing right now in Dusseldorf, Germany. IPG's sister publication, Printing Impressions, has two editors walking the show floor. With 1,850 exhibitors from 56 countries showing their wares, our editors have more than their share of work ahead of them. Here are just a few of the reports that have trickled back to IPG.

manroland web systems, the U.S. sales and service organization for manroland web systems GmbH, has been founded. The new company, a separate legal entity from the manroland sheetfed organization, will operate out of the existing manroland facility in Westmont, IL.
