THOUGH PRINT 09 may have gotten off to a slow start, the crowds eventually showed up. And when they did, many of them headed right for the bindery equipment. Nowhere was that more true than at the Standard Finishing Systems exhibit, which was bustling with activity on the third day of the show, even as other booths appeared to be on siesta. Mark Hunt, director of marketing for Standard, thought he knew why.

Roughly 50 trade journalists, consultants and analysts converged on Chicago's Sheraton Hotel & Towers Tuesday and Wednesday for PRINT 09 Media Days, a preshow glimpse of the technologies that will be on exhibit at PRINT 09. The Graphic Arts Show Company (GASC), which manages the event, was among 14 exhibitors that provided presentations in advance of PRINT 09, which kicks off Sept. 11 at McCormick Place and runs through Sept. 16.

Yesterday’s mail piece automation and verification demonstration in Baltimore marked the first of six such events being presented by Buhrs and Lake Image Systems. The two companies are holding a six-city, cross country tour to demonstrate how mail piece processing, verification and job tracking solutions will reduce labor costs, improve productivity and reduce liability exposure. The next show in the series will take place this coming Thursday in Atlanta (3/13), and then continue in Dallas (3/27), Los Angeles (4/3), Chicago (4/10) and New York/New Jersey (4/17).
