PALO ALTO, Calif.—Jan 22, 2008—HP (NYSE:HPQ) today announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Exstream Software, LLC, a privately-held leading provider of enterprise software that streamlines the creation and delivery of personalized documents and other communications materials. It’s official: digital presses can float. Or at least the HP Indigo press 1050 aboard the Ocean Village Two cruise ship can. Ocean Village, a U.K.-based cruise company, brought the digital press on board to replace the two-color litho press it was using to produce menus, schedules, welcome packs and an on-board newspaper. The HP Indigo press 1050 will enable an even wider range of collateral to be printed than before. TACUP: A ‘Survivor’ Success Story

FOR 30 years now the Texas Association of College and University Printers (TACUP) has been meeting all over Texas. Last month, the University of North Texas (UNT) played host to the group, which included 42 managers from in-plants as far south as Brownsville, on the Mexico border. An affable group, they networked their way through 21/2 days of sessions and plant tours, finding plenty of time to laugh and learn. UNT’s Jimmy Friend modeled the conference’s theme on the TV reality show “Survivor,” splitting attendees into two tribes, the Inkadinkas and the Paperwampus. Members fielded questions throughout the event, getting points for correct answers.

HP has signed a definitive agreement to acquire MacDermid ColorSpan Inc., a manufacturer of wide-format digital ink-jet printers. As a result, the company says it plans to provide lower-cost platforms and UV technologies to print service providers that are expanding into outdoor applications and more industrial workloads. Based in Minnetonka, Minn., MacDermid ColorSpan is a supplier of UV-curable ink-jet printers for display graphics. Its current president, Robert J. Wenzel, will lead the new product line at HP.
