Lenoir Community College Adds Heidelberg Press

Lenoir Community College is designing a brighter future for its students with a piece of new equipment: a two-color Heidelberg Printmaster QM 46. The press will be installed in its Kinston, N.C., student training lab. The college’s graphic arts and imaging technology degree is highly coveted in a region that employs many in the printing industry.

University of Tennessee Adds Second Printmaster

The campus print shop for the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tenn., is doubling down on its recent printing successes by adding a second Printmaster QM 46-2. The installation also includes Heidelberg’s Prinect Prepress Interface, which seamlessly links the shop’s two-year-old, four-color Speedmaster XL 105 with its prepress workflow system by transferring print-relevant parameters from prepress to the printing press.

Church of Scientology In-plant Raises the Bar

An impressive new video from the Church of Scientology shows off the organization's new 185,000-square-foot in-plant, in Los Angeles. Called the International Dissemination and Distribution Center, the operation houses manufacturing, distribution and administration all under one roof and is staffed entirely by Church staff members. It features a Goss Sunday web press, a Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 105 five-color press and many other pieces of equipment.

Direct to Plate at Last

Winner of the In-Plant Printing and Mailing Association’s coveted Management Award, Washington State University Publishing was one of the first in-plants to receive FSC chain-of-custody certification. The Pullman, Wash.-based shop was among the first to add a digital color press when it installed an HP Indigo 3050 five years ago. But one bit of ’90s technology the 58-employee in-plant still held onto was its Heidelberg Hercules imagesetter.

AARP: Not Your Grandfather’s In-plant

Increasingly populated these days by Baby Boomers who adamantly refuse to acknowledge age as a limitation, the organization behind the mailings is a well-oiled machine that relies heavily on print and mail to acquire and service nearly 40 million loyal members. The lion's share of the print and mail that supports AARP's internal needs comes out of the Print Services operation at AARP's Washington, D.C., headquarters.

Heidelberg to Distribute EFI's VUTEk Printers

Under a new agreement, Heidelberg USA will distribute EFI’s VUTEk GS2000, GS3200, and GS5000r superwide-format digital printers in the U.S. The deal also include the inks, parts, consumables, accessories and upgrades related to these printers. Heidelberg will also provide customer and technical support for the VUTEk GS series of printers including installation and training.

University of Arkansas Reinvigorates its Prepress Operation

The University of Arkansas recently added a Kodak Magnus 800 CTP system, Heidelberg’s Prinect workflow and an HP Designjet Z2100 inkjet proofer, which was color profiled to the in-plant’s five-color, 20x28˝ Komori.
