Graph Expo is only nine days away, and the show is expected to draw an impressive number of in-plants. One reason for this is the strong focus on in-plants this year, to include sessions, receptions and networking opportunities specifically for in-house print managers.

When a university realizes its in-plant is sitting on prime real estate, that news often leads to a few restless nights for the manager of that shop. That's what happened at Indiana University, when the city of Bloomington decided to develop a technology park on the west side of town, in an area where IU Document Services had been situated for 41 years.
Xplor International will be back at Graph Expo this year, bringing a half-day program featuring nine sessions, held at three concurrent times. Titled “Making it Relevant,” Xplor’s seminars will take place Monday, October 8.
The On Demand Conference and Expo will take place next week on Wednesday and Thursday in New York City. Now in it’s 19th year, the event returns to the Javits Center after several years on the road (Philadelphia, Boston, Washington, D.C.).
Held in the sleepy state capital of Harrisburg, Pa., in late April, the 47th annual Association of College and University Printers conference brought together nearly 100 higher-ed in-plant managers from all corners of the country—and from four other countries.
Taking place only once every four years, the drupa international printing trade fair is a huge show. By the time it wrapped up its two-week stint in Düsseldorf, Germany, last month 314,500 visitors from more than 130 countries had walked its 19 halls and visited its 1,850 exhibitors.
Eastman Kodak Co. lost a ruling in a two-year legal fight against Apple Inc. and Research In Motion Ltd. (RIM) over a patent for digital image-preview technology, a decision that may hurt the value of assets Kodak is selling. RIM and Apple didn’t violate Kodak’s rights because the patent is invalid, U.S. International Trade Commission Judge Thomas Pender said in a notice posted on the agency’s website.
Kodak presented the Print Ambassador Lifetime Achievement Award to Frank Romano in a ceremony at its stand at drupa 2012 earlier this week. Romano is the third recipient of the award, established to honor individuals who demonstrate a passion for advocacy and education in the printing industry.
A year and a half ago, Shana Farrell, Printing Services and Distance Learning Manager at Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton, Wis., organized a recognition event for her staff of six. She invited not only her boss but the college president. There, each employee received individual recognition for his or her hard work and dedication. Afterward, Farrell says, she noticed everyone was working harder and enjoying their jobs more.
