Heidelberg's management board has adopted a previously announced action package to reduce structural costs and improve profitability. The company plans to cease production on unprofitable businesses and reduce its global workforce by up to 2,000 jobs, among other strategic moves.

The delay of drupa won't stop Heidelberg from launching a range of technologies that incorporate artificial intelligence, process optimization and intelligent productivity. Executives offer a sneak peak at these technologies, stressing how Heidelberg is taking the “smart print shop” into a new dimension.

Hobby Lobby has installed a four-color Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 106 press with UV capabilities, along with Heidelberg’s Saphira Consumables and Heidelberg Assistant, an intelligent online program of data driven smart services.

All Speedmaster drupa 2020 models, in both small, medium, and large format, will be equipped as standard with new Push to Stop functionalities and a cloud connection. Also premiering will be fully automatic “Plate to Unit” printing plate logistics, which reduces the operator’s workload and ensures higher process reliability.

“Connected automation” is at the forefront of Komori’s latest developments in offset and digital printing, and was on display at a recent event in Yamagata, Japan.
