Three UK In-plants Add DI Presses

Three university in-plants in the UK have installed Presstek digital offset presses in recent months. In addition to Glasgow Caledonian University, which (as reported in IPG’s May issue) has installed a landscape-format Presstek 52DI, Aberystwyth University and the University of Edinburgh have each installed Presstek 34DI digital offset presses. In fact, this is the second 34DI for Aberystwyth, which is located in Wales.

New iGen4 Cuts Costs at Western & Southern Financial

To improve the quality of its brochures, booklets, post cards and color statements, the 23-employee printing and mailing operation at Western & Southern Financial Group recently became one of the first in-plants to install the new Xerox iGen4 digital press. Dan Cowan, Print/Volume Document Production Manager, feels the quality of the iGen4’s output is even better than that of the iGen3. “It’s much closer to offset,” he contends.

New Boston Branch for Riso

RISO plans to open a branch in Boston one week from tomorrow, the day after it acquires the customer base of Riso dealer RPB Systems & Services. The new branch will serve the entire state of Massachusetts.

Kodak's Stream Ink-jet Technology Has a Buyer

A little over a year after Kodak demonstrated its Stream Concept Inkjet Press at Drupa last year, the first press has been sold. Webcrafters, a book printer headquartered in Madison, Wis., signed a letter of intent to purchase one of the ink-jet presses, which Kodak is now branding under the KODAK PROSPER name.

Two In-plants Install iGen4 Digital Presses

Over the past few weeks, in-plants in Delaware and Ohio have installed Xerox iGen4 digital color presses. The University of Delaware, in Newark, Del., and Cincinnati-based Western & Southern Financial Group are among the first in-plants to install the latest Xerox production presses.

Both shops traded in other Xerox equipment that was nearing the end of its lease. As a result, they were able to keep lease costs at or below their previous levels.

Kodak Announces First Sale of PROSPER S10 Imprinting System

The first KODAK PROSPER S10 Imprinting System has been sold to Instant Data Forms in Hong Kong, one of China’s leading providers of general business forms and direct mail printing services. A monochrome continuous inkjet printhead using KODAK Stream Inkjet Technology, the PROSPER S10 Imprinting System will be installed at Instant Data Forms’ Aidifu Stationery Co. Ltd. in Shenzen, enabling the company to deliver higher quality printed materials with greater efficiency, as well as added value for its clients.

Burns Takes Over as New Xerox CEO

Xerox has a new chief executive officer. On July 1, Xerox President Ursula M. Burns replaced Anne M. Mulcahy as CEO, a position she has held since 2001. Burns, 50, an African-American woman who started with Xerox in 1980 as an intern and rose through the ranks, has played an increasingly crucial role in recent years, overseeing the IT organization, corporate strategy, human resources, corporate marketing and global accounts. Still, despite her busy schedule, she found time to speak to in-plants at both the NGPA conference last fall and the 2007 ACUP conference.

New York Shop Turns To Ricoh For Color

Dale Zipkin knew his shop needed a better color printer. The 10-employee in-plant for the New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) union was using older color devices from Canon and Konica Minolta, but maintenance problems were hindering productivity. Splitting jobs between the two printers wasn't working out either.
