Xerox digital front ends (DFEs), powered by Fiery, are now available for the Xerox Color J75 and C75 presses. These DFEs are among the first to market built on EFI’s award-winning new Fiery FS100 Pro platform, which integrates seamlessly with EFI's market-leading MIS/ERP software, eCommerce/Web-to-print products, and scheduling tools to complete the entire end-to-end print workflow.
What is striking about the round of installations this year over last, we are hearing about far fewer installation problems and challenges with substrates. We are hearing more about the costs and need to expand post-processing capabilities rather than installation or performance of the presses themselves. Business cases are still strong but, unlike the earliest adopters, those needs were not as acute, so they had the luxury of hanging back and biding their time until that time was right.
EFI proved that "what happens in Vegas doesn't have to stay in Vegas," especially for the roughly 800 attendees who could select from more than 150 breakout and training sessions at the EFI Connect users' group meeting held here Jan. 15-18 at the Wynn Las Vegas. Sessions covered MIS/ERP software, Web-to-print systems, industrial inkjet printers and Fiery technology.
Like many prison in-plants, the Ventura County Sheriff's Office Print Shop was getting by for years using older equipment. Its one- and two-color offset presses and an old friction-fed collator/booklet maker worked well enough, but they didn't exactly give inmate operators the skills that would make modern digital printing operations want to hire them upon their release.
EFI has achieved a victory in its Spanish patent litigation with Jose Vicente Tomas Claramonte, the president of KERAjet, S.A., involving EFI Cretaprint's ceramic digital inkjet printing systems. "The court's ruling vindicates what we have maintained all along: that Claramonte's lawsuit was baseless and that his patent is invalid," said EFI's General Counsel, Bryan Ko.

It was a fairly routine day at Allegheny College Printing Services. Manager Mark Pritchard was talking with a customer when a popping noise made him turn and look toward his in-plant's Ikon CPP 650 color printer.
Ever since he arrived at Elon University three years ago as manager of Printing Services, Wesley Grigg has had one overriding mission: “My goal was to change it from a ‘copy shop’ to being a full service printer,” he says of his three-employee in-plant, based in Elon, N.C. With this in mind, his first move was to install a Ricoh Pro C900 in 2010 and start printing more of the university’s high-quality color printing.
