Xerox, Canon Rank Among Top 50 Global Green Brands
Both Xerox and Canon have made Interbrand's list of Top 50 Global Green Brands in 2013, ranking 29 and 30 respectively. Interbrand is one of the world's leading brand consultancies. (See the full list here.)
“Xerox innovations minimize the environmental impact of our customers’ businesses, maximizing our collective value for society,” states Ursula Burns, Chairman and CEO.
A key strategic focus for the Xerox brand—which moves up three spots this year thanks to improved perceptions and performance—is enabling sustainable enterprise, which focuses on efforts that positively impact internal stakeholders, customers and the environment. Keeping with its promise of making business simpler and sustainable, Xerox strives to take the “excess waste” out of its products and services. Energy-saving technologies and products use less power and reduce the amount of e-waste going to landfills, while advanced transportation data and image processing optimize and reduce overall traffic congestion.
Canon's commitment to Kyosei, defined as living and working together for the common good, was highlighted by Interbrand as a strength that helps put sustainability and corporate citizenship at the heart of the brand.
"We believe that the results of Interbrand's 2013 Best Global Green Brands reflect Canon's commitment to minimizing our environmental footprint, as well as giving back to the communities we serve," says Joe Adachi, president and CEO, Canon U.S.A. "Canon's implementation of our unique philosophy of Kyosei has helped to reinforce our reputation as a leader in corporate citizenship, and we are honored to be included in this category."
Additionally, Interbrand recognized Canon's adherence to its Corporate Social Responsibility partnerships, including its involvement with the World Wildlife Fund, a partnership where Canon technology has been used to help digitize the organization's image collection, along with Canon's commitment to reduce the environmental impact of every aspect of the product lifecycle, from manufacturing and recycling through to actual use.
Canon has undertaken several initiatives to reduce environmental impact, including an ink cartridge and office equipment recycling program, and partnerships with the Environmental Protection Agency in its ENERGY STAR program to promote the development of energy-efficient products, and SmartWay Transport Partnership to reduce the environmental impact of the company's transportation activities. Every year Canon also supports a variety of environmental initiatives around the country, including the Canon Clean Earth Crew, in which Canon employees volunteer their time to protect and improve the natural environment in communities near Canon offices.
HP also made Interbrand's list of the Top 50 Global Green Brands, dropping seven places to number 12.
