Shriners International is a historic fraternal organization that is best known for its network of non-profit children’s hospitals located across North America. David Friend works in the print shop at Shriners International Headquarters in Tampa, Fla. As the shop’s only employee, Friend is solely responsible for printing requests from not only the hundreds of on-site employees, but also the 22 Shriners hospitals nationwide. The print shop’s Xanté Impressia Multi-Media Digital Print System enables Friend to satisfy the demand from this organization, and its print speed and quick turnaround time give him the freedom to take on more projects.
“I’m subject to whatever comes down from the 250 employees that we have upstairs, be it envelopes, letterhead, name badges, business cards, booklets, brochures - almost anything,” he says.
Friend is truly amazed by the increased amount of output the Impressia allows the shop to produce. “Some jobs take as much as 20,000 sheets of paper. On average, I probably do about a couple hundred thousand sheets a week, about 4.5 million copies a year. It does the envelopes very well,” he says.

Because the system requires little setup time, Friend now has the freedom to work on other projects simultaneously. He feels that the Impressia’s performance is far superior to other printers that he has used in the past. “It’s a lot easier, cleaner, and faster. I can knock out a box of 500 [envelopes] in 15 to 20 minutes.”
The Impressia has already firmly established itself as the world’s best envelope printer, but the print shop at Shriners Headquarters proves that the system is also well suited for more specialized printing needs. “I’d say it’s a very reliable machine. Since it’s been here, I’ve probably done thirty to thirty-five boxes of envelopes and about 10,000 sheets of specialty letterhead with an embossed seal. It runs one sheet at a time with no jams. It will also do NCR paper,” Friend says. This kind of media versatility is especially beneficial for a non-profit organization because it allows more money and resources to be devoted to charitable causes instead of costly outsourcing.
