What to Watch For at Graph Expo
Digital and Offset Presses
Fujifilm will showcase its inkjet and workflow technology, featuring the J Press 720 inkjet sheeted press, INCA S40i inkjet flatbed press, Acuity HS and LED 1600 wide-format presses. With the launch of XMF Workflow v5.0, Fujifilm will also highlight its latest workflow featuring XMF ColorPath and XMF Remote.
Only one year since announcing its partnership with Ricoh, Heidelberg will present the new Prinect Digital Workflow Integration together with the Heidelberg-branded Linoprint C901 professional-class digital printing solution that takes full advantage of Heidelberg’s color management applications and services.
Hewlett-Packard will debut several products in North America, including the HP Indigo 5600, 7600 and 10000 presses. The HP Indigo 10000 is the first B2-size digital press suitable for printing nearly all commercial jobs. It maintains multiple paper sources and duplexing capabilities to offer greater efficiencies and productivity.
Several new products will be unveiled by Kodak. New printing features for the Kodak NexPress platform will be shown, along with a demonstration of the Kodak Prosper S-Series imprinting system for hybrid applications. Also highlighted will be Kodak’s Prinergy workflow, Kodak Sonora XP plates, new Kodak Flexcel systems, Kodak Service and Support options, customer success stories and more.
The new ValueJet 1638, a 64˝, dual head, eco-solvent printer will be on display by Mutoh America. The ValueJet 1638 can print at speeds of more than1,000 sq.ft./hr.
The new OKI pro511 digital web press is a commercial-grade printer that can affordably produce thousands of production-quality, color labels per day. Enhanced features and functionality include a Proactive server, Harlequin RIP, Hybrid front-end software, heavy-duty rewinder and pre-assembled slitter.
The Ricoh Pro L4000 series printers, which debuted at drupa 2012, feature the next generation of Ricoh’s piezo-electric print heads with durable and eco-friendly aqueous latex ink in seven colors—CMYK, light cyan, light magenta and white. This platform offers extensive media support (including PVC, paper and textiles), high productivity, and its durable ink makes the Pro L4000 ideal for both outdoor and indoor applications.
Roland DGA will introduce UV and eco-solvent inkjet printers and printer/cutters for labels, packaging prototypes, specialty graphics and personalization, including VersaUV, VersaCAMM VS and VersaStudio models. Choose from metallic, white and clear ink options for premium effects and finishes.
Xanté will show the Excelagraphix 4200 high-speed, wide-format inkjet printing system featuring Memjet Waterfall Printhead Technology. It delivers print speeds up to 12˝ per second. Also at the Xanté booth will be demos of new iQueue 7 Ultimate multi-user workflow designed for professional digital printing systems.
A new cut-sheet digital color press will be introduced by Xerox. The iGen 150 offers easy job setup and fast production times, achieving 3,000, 26˝ oversized sheets/hr. with print speeds up to 150 ppm. Each page is created with patented image-on-image technology and matte dry ink to produce vivid color digital prints.
Launched at drupa 2012, a 57˝ KBA Rapida 145 sheetfed press will be highlighted by KBA North America. The press can print at a maximum production speed of 17,000 sph in straight printing, and 15,000 sph in perfecting mode with a new perfecting unit. Other features include a new coater concept; automated pile logistics; SIS sidelay-free infeed and DriveTronic SPC direct drives for fast, simultaneous plate changing; and QualiTronic ICR in-line register control.
The Presstek 52DI four-color digital offset press is a highly automated machine that can produce oversized, two-page, landscape formats. The 52DI features support for 300 lpi and FM screening, 10-minute job-to-job turnover (including on-press plate imaging) and a small environmental footprint. The press prints up to 10,000 full-size sheets/hr. on any offset stock up to 0.020˝ (0.5mm) thick.
Chromolux high-gloss paper and board, now available from Mohawk Fine Papers, features a cast-coated, one-side, high-gloss surface and excellent print performance. With Label, Cover and Digital for HP Indigo presses, in a range of calipers, colors and metallic finishes, Chromolux is suitable for a wide range of applications from high-end brochures, business cards, pocket folders, greeting cards, calendars and labels, to distinctive luxe packaging for cosmetics, cigarettes and confections.
Finishing and Mail
Baum has added a new smaller-format, fully hydraulic paper cutter to its BaumCut line. The BaumCut 22.0 guillotine paper cutter is available in two models: 22.0-E features programming of 198 separate jobs, fully hydraulic clamp and knife, and very low maintenance all standard; Model 22.0-N also has the new CompuCut software and a large touchscreen control panel to make job setup much easier using barcode job-matching.
Duplo USA will showcase its DBMi saddle system, the DSF-2200 sheet feeder and the high-production DC-745 slitter/cutter/creaser. Duplo offers a full range of products including slitter/cutter/creasers, sheet feeders, saddlestitchers, bookletmakers, perfect binders, folders and UV coaters.
The MBM Aerocut digital finishing system “revolutionized” on-demand finishing by consolidating slitting, cuttting and creasing into a single operation. The next generation Aerocut—the G2—offers increased speed and enhanced functionality, including cross-perfing and an improved digital interface.
Also at the show will be the MBM Triumph 4860 ET automatic programmable cutter with an 18 7/8" cutting width and a 3" cutting height. Features include an IR light beam safety curtain on front table; transparent, electronically controlled safety cover on rear table; main switch and safety lock with key; electronically controlled, true two-hand operation; automatic blade/clamp return from every position; disc brake for instant blade stop; blade depth adjustment from outside of machine; 10-button touch pad for presetting measurements; 99 programs with up to 99 steps in each; and much more.
manroland web systems will be introducing its digital postpress technology to the North American market. The VFF folder and VBC collator are designed for the digital printing market and are available in-line on Océ digital rollfed presses and off-line to the market at large.
The JETvarnish 3D inkjet spot UV coater with new 3D raised effects will be presented by MGI USA. The new unit offers increased speed for traditional flat spot UV coating (up to 3,500 B2 sheets/hr.), while the new 3D effects produce brilliant, tactile features designed to take projects to the next level.
Morgana Systems will demonstrate its new DocuMaster MFC that is designed to eliminate tedious and time-consuming operations by creasing the sheets as part of the feeding and bookletmaking operation. With multiple feed stations, the design allows for the feeding of specialized covers and booklets inside pages from separate feed bins.
Muller Martini will feature live demonstrations of its SigmaTrimming Center—part of its scalable SigmaLine modular digital book manufacturing system. Visitors will be invited to “trim-and-keep” a best-selling title. They will also learn how to get more from existing equipment via a legacy 335 saddlestitcher that’s equipped with numerous upgrades such as ASIR3 Signature Recognition, 449 three-knife trimmer, front-feeding stream feeder and rebuilt pockets.
Pitney Bowes will feature its latest solutions and services to help organizations enhance customer communications, lower operational costs, and increase production efficiency, including: the Mailstream Wrapper Productivity Series, the IntelliJet Printing Systems, the Connect+ Customer Communications Series, trackmymail.com solutions, the Volly secure digital delivery service and a range of mail services solutions.
Rollem International will display its 2D Finisher models for full-bleed slitting, scoring and perforating. These systems eliminate guillotine cutting and additional manpower, while delivering accurately cut cards with crisp, clean scores. This is an economical model with a smaller footprint and high output.
The Sterling Digipunch, from Spiel Associates, punches for comb-,
coil- and double-loop wire at up to 60,000 sheets/hr. The Digipunch utilizes a touchscreen computer, which provides complete, automatic setup and automatic changeovers. The touchscreen also prompts operators when it’s time to lubricate or sharpen the dies.
Spiral James Burn will present several new document finishing solutions, which include the Foliant line of single-sided laminating solutions; the new PDI Rhin-O-Tuff Onyx series of heavy-duty, tabletop punching and binding machines; and the complete line of James Burn International (JBI) punching and binding solutions.
Standard Finishing Systems will launch the Standard Horizon HT-1000V variable three-knife trimmer, capable of one-to-one variable trimming, in-line or off-line. Setup and variable trimming is achieved by reading a barcode printed on a cover sheet. The HT-1000V can trim up to 1,000 variable thickness and format size books/hour. It will accept a range of input sizes and deliver trimmed books from 5.7x4.05˝ up to 13.38x11.69˝.
A new desktop creasing and perforating machine for short-run, low-volume print and copy shops has been introduced by Technifold USA. The CreaseStream Mini Desktop creasing and perforating machine eliminates fiber cracking and features the patented Tri-Creaser and Technifold Micro Perforator. An option for perfect-bound book covers is also available.
Software
Agfa Graphics will introduce its next-generation prepress workflow, :Apogee Suite 8.0, which is designed to optimize production processes in offset, digital printing or hybrid printing environments. It features new tools created to facilitate interaction with customers, including :Apogee StoreFront, a cloud-based, Web-to-print solution that helps set up online stores for printed and non-printed products.
Bell and Howell’s Accurant address cleansing software auto-corrects addresses to USPS standards anywhere customer address data is entered, edited or needs to be enhanced. With Accurant, customer data is kept complete, correct and current on numerous operating systems, and batch processed at speeds exceeding millions of records per hour.
EFI will showcase its portfolio of products, including print production workflow and business automation software (PrintSmith, Pace, Monarch, Radius, Digital StoreFront and others), Fiery digital print servers and solutions, VUTEk super-wide printers, EFI wide-format printers, Jetrion industrial inkjet systems, proofing and large-format production offerings.
MindFire Inc. will debut its cloud-based marketing automation software, MindFire Studio. This drag-and-drop application allows print providers to visually create personalized marketing workflows; orchestrate media, like direct mail, e-mail and social media; leverage triggers to automate drip-and-nurture sequences; and analyze performance using visual reporting and analytics.
Rochester Software Associates’ automated Web-to-print solution, WebCRD 9.2, offers new and enhanced functionality, including book assembly; black-and-white color detection; Print MIS invoicing to bill external customers; user-defined, drag-and-drop configuration reporting; font preflighting; approval capabilities for department and multiple approvals; and integration with the latest versions of VDP software.
XMPie, a Xerox Co., will introduce XMPie Circle, an interactive, digital storyboard used to help visualize and plan individualized communication campaigns. Designed to foster teamwork and collaboration, the cloud-based service enables all stakeholders in one-to-one, multichannel campaigns to share concepts, agree on a blueprint, review and approve goals and creative work, and monitor analytics.
