More than 30 in-plant managers and nearly 60 people total attended an in-plant road show on March 28 on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus, organized by the In-plant Printing & Mailing Association (IPMA). The event was hosted by John Yerger, director of UNL Print Services.
The road show brought together in-plants representing the state printing operations of both Nebraska and Kansas, EMC Insurance, Cabella’s, Olathe (Kansas) Schools, Boys Town, Iowa State University, the University of Nebraska-Kearney, Mutual of Omaha, the USPS, Pittsburg State University, and more.
After a welcome by Yerger, Kim Phelps, UNL's associate vice chancellor for business and finance, and IPMA Executive Director Mike Loyd, the attendees heard industry experts from Canon, Ricoh, SC Logic and DLS speak about best practices for improving print quality, building relevance, leveraging technology and smart shipping. UNL's Charlotte Boe then told attendees how selling promotional products has benefited the in-plant.
After the education sessions finished, attendees traveled to Print Services’ award-winning operation across campus. About 15 vendors had set up information tables to share with the group. Yerger and his staff took the attendees on a tour of their impressive operation, where they got a look at the in-plant's new six-color, 40˝ Manroland sheetfed offset press with a coater. Overall, it was a very successful day of education and networking for the in-plant managers who attended.
"I appreciate the hard work you and your staff, and the IPMA staff put into this event," praised attendee John Morrison, Prepress, Pressroom, Doc Room Supervisor at the Nebraska Department of Administrative Services. "I was able to learn some very helpful things and make a few contacts. I personally look forward to working with the UNL Print Shop as a partner in the future."
