Hoekema, who is also the in-plant's graphic designer, says attending the Association of College and University Printers conference has played a part in his in-plant's success, giving him many new ideas.

He was most proud a few months ago, he says, when a board of trustees member who had often criticized the operation in the past told him the graphics department had become a vital part of the college.
