Among the winners in the second annual Premier PRINT Awards program, produced by PRINTING United Alliance, are two in-plants from opposite coasts.
Both the Church of Scientology International Dissemination & Distribution Center in Commerce, California, and The World Bank Group’s Printing & Multimedia division, in Landover, Maryland, won Best of Category awards in the prestigious contest. They competed against some of the best commercial printers in the world.
In the Screen Printing Multicolor (Non-Process) Garments category, the Church of Scientology’s Flag World Tour Shirt took top honors. It portrays the majestic Flag Building, Scientology’s spiritual headquarters.
“The first challenge was in transforming photographic imagery into a screen-printed design while maintaining an accurate representation of the subject matter,” noted the in-plant in a statement. “The second major challenge was in running this shirt (better suited either to a press with more heads or a DTG press) on our automatic press, while maintaining strict quality control standards.”
In the Specialty Activated Printing category, the World Bank won for “A Journey to the Sahel,” which used drone footage and 360 degree camera shots, all done by World Bank staff.
“The virtual Journey into the Sahel project was created to highlight the devastating effect of climate change on the transitional area between north and south Africa, as well as the ongoing efforts to mitigate further damage,” noted the in-plant. “The use of cutting-edge technology such as Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and Video were complimented by printed materials to engage stakeholders in a way that allowed them to interact with the environment and people of the Sahel region in a truly unique way.”
IPI salutes these two in-plants for these extraordinary projects.
People’s Choice Award Voting at PRINTING United Expo
With 71 categories, the renowned international competition honors excellence in printed products spanning different segments and processes across the industry. The comprehensive list of the 63 Best of Category, Printed Product of the Year, and Best of Show award winners can be viewed now in the official Premier PRINT Awards website gallery at premierprint.printing.org.
To select the winners among many outstanding submissions, PRINTING United Alliance appoints a panel of independent industry judges based on their experience, expertise, and technical skills. The winning entries will be displayed at the upcoming PRINTING United Expo (Oct. 19-21, Las Vegas) at booth C4946, where attendees can vote for the “People’s Choice” award, which will be named on Oct. 20.
“This year’s Premier PRINT Awards judges had a difficult time narrowing the awards to 63 winners among all of the impressive submissions,” says Dawn Nye, program manager, PRINTING United Alliance. “Each piece was innovative and of the highest quality. We thank those who participated and encourage the industry to view the special awards gallery to see all the wonderful entries.”
Established in 2021, the Premier PRINT Awards represents the printing industry’s most advanced awards program as it comprises the former SGIA Golden Image Award, Printing Impressions’ Gold Ink Award, Packaging Impressions’ Excellence Award, and Printing Industries of America’s Benny Award.
As a result, the Premier PRINT Awards celebrates the best of the best in all areas of print production, including screen, offset, digital, wide-format, flexographic, and gravure. The Tom Frecska Student Printing Competition Category is also open to any high school, adult education, vocational, and college student or student group involved in creating or producing print communications.
In addition to being showcased at the Expo, the winning pieces are featured in a full-color booklet that is mailed with the PRINTING United Journal to thousands of member companies worldwide.
