Faster Color in Mississippi
As the lease on its Xerox 3535 neared its end, The Mississippi House of Representatives’ in-plant had to start thinking about updating its equipment. The shop wanted something faster and less expensive with excellent service support. It found all that in the Xerox 7655, a 40-page-per-minute (ppm) color printer (55 ppm black-and-white) with resolutions of 2,400x2,400 dpi.
“This is a good machine. It runs the job at a faster rate, and the print/color quality seems to be more crisp and vivid,” says Printing Manager Doug Beckham. “It was able to cover the functions we were accustomed to at increased speeds.”
This has been a big help to the in-plant—which has four full-time and six part-time employees—for producing items like newsletters, brochures and handouts that legislators need for committee meetings and floor action. The new printer helps cut costs too, thanks to a two-cent-per-copy decrease in click charges.
“That saves us a lot over time,” he says.
Though the price of the printer and the click-charge savings ended up swaying the in-plant, the shop also was concerned about service.
“We do compare printers somewhat, but the main feature we consider is the service staff available for the machine,” says Beckham. “Xerox is one of the best in that regard.”
Beckham says that his shop’s customers have been impressed with the 7655’s two-hour turnaround time, as well as the quality of the color it produces.
