A lot has changed since last year on our lists of the largest higher-ed in-plants. On our ranking by employees, the same 10 in-plants top the list, but in a new order, with Penn State jumping up two ranks to tie both the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Minnesota for the No. 4 spot. The University of Nebraska - Lincoln also rose two positions in the ranks.
On our ranking by annual sales, however, the changes were more drastic, with only six of last year's top 10 still at the top. Brigham Young University increased its sales by $1 million to overtake the University of Oklahoma for the top spot. Also, three in-plants that didn't participate last year — University of California-San Francisco, Duke University and Penn State — submitted their numbers this year and made it into the top 10.
Overall, four university in-plants cracked $10 million in sales this year, and six have more than 50 employees. Read our full lists of the largest college and university in-plants to find out who they are.
