This week, swissQprint launched a new version of its Karibu S wide-format printer in a virtual press conference. The the UV roll to roll printer can run at speeds up to 300 sqm/hr, and it has a new automatic double-sided print ability that will make it easier to get perfect registration on posters, billboards, and other projects that require printing on both sides of the substrate.
Adriano Gut, product manager at swissQprint, noted during the launch, “The ‘S’ stands for speed. And yes, the Karibu S comes with ample speed, but not just that. Speed is of the essence in this day and age, no doubt, but to compete in this ever-changing market, you need to be flexible, offer great quality, and have your costs under control. And that sums up the Karibu S.”
The double-sided printing, in particular, isn’t just limited to the new press, the company noted. It can be added to existing Karibu printers already in the field, adding additional functionality. The system uses QR codes and an integrated camera system that is used to ensure that the media is positioned correctly to get exact registration on side B, lined with side A — and it is designed to ensure that it doesn’t matter how the media is inserted for the second side, it will still line up correctly, and in the correct orientation.
“What makes the Karibu S a true champion,” Gut asked during the launch event. “Next to the superb print speeds, and the fantastic ink, in my humble opinion, it is the reliability factor. The printer has a rock-solid foundation, and it’s made for 24/7 production. As with any swissQprint, you hardly face any breakdowns, and that really maximizes your uptime. To sum up, the Karibu S offers impressive speed and quality, and lets you move your limits.”
The final piece of the swissQprint launch is a brand new neon UV ink option, which can be added to any of the LED UV presses the company offers, both roll-to-roll and flatbed. The new colors are Neon Pink and Neon Yellow, which the company notes also allows a shop to produce a neon orange color as well. And in addition to a bright pop of color, the inks are also fluorescent, which means they will glow in a blacklight environment, giving PSPs the opportunity to capture work for customers in themed or party-type environments. All of the presses the company offers can have up to nine ink channels — and users are free to expand or modify their configuration at any time — so the neon inks can be easily swapped in.
“This is a world premier,” said Carmen Eicher, chief sales and marketing officer, during the virtual event. “It has never been seen before on our UV large-format printers before. It’s completely dazzling, and it will open up new possibilities. …Are you ready for the neon revolution? …Differentiate yourself with this addition to the swissQprint portfolio.”
“I hope we inspired you with the Karibu S, the automatic double-sided printing option, and the neon UV inks,” said Kilian Hintermann, CEO of swissQprint, wrapping up the launch event. He implored everyone to stay safe, but ended the virtual presentation noting that he is looking forward to seeing everyone live at events in the near future.
