SUPDMC was not the only event for in-plants last month. Just a week later, the 2011 SGIA Expo came to New Orleans, followed by the Texas Association of College and University Printers (TACUP) conference the following week in Fort Worth.
SGIA brought 16,000 people to the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center to view the latest wide-format, screen and digital printing technologies. More than 450 vendors were on hand, spreading their wares across 167,350 square feet of exhibit space.
Then the following week, the Texas Association of College and University Printers (TACUP) convened in Fort Worth's historic stockyards district, once again teaming up with the Southwest Association of College and University Mail Services (SWACUMS).
The joint event brought together almost 50 print and mail managers from every corner of the Lone Star State, as well as from neighboring New Mexico and Oklahoma. They networked, listened to educational sessions, visited with the 25 sponsoring vendors and toured the printing and mailing facilities at host school Texas Christian University.
Guided by the theme "Is Your Operation on the Right Trail?" the conference covered topics like finding new ways to generate revenue, how to sell your in-plant's value, earning respect while building a successful team atmosphere and how your in-plant can achieve excellence. For the mailers in the audience, there were sessions covering mail design, upcoming changes in postal regulations and address enrichment strategies.
