On Sunday, several dozen in-plant managers will gather in St. Augustine, Fla., for the 40th annual Southeastern University Printing and Digital Managers Conference (SUPDMC). Attendees will hail from universities all over the southern U.S. as well as from Delaware, Pennsylvania and Ohio. IPG Editor Bob Neubauer will be on hand as well.
Taking place at the Casa Monica Hotel, the conference will feature a two-day vendor fair and three days of educational sessions on a variety of topics, such as workflow’s role in business performance, leadership styles and envelope printing. Gary Jones, assistant vice president of Printing Industries of America, will kick off the conference with a presentation on "The Value of Print" in which he will address ways to counter popular myths about printing (e.g., it kills trees, it's less effective than digital communication, etc.)
Former in-plant manager Vic Barkin, now president of Vic Barkin Consulting, LLC, will enlighten attendees with his presentation on setting up a quality management system. A panel of managers will discuss ways to generate additional revenue. And Abbas Badani, director of Penn State University's Multimedia & Print Center, will reprise the presentation he gave at the IPMA conference on the strategic value of managing outsourcing, which his in-plant does so well via a procurement portal.
The conference will wrap up on Wednesday with an excursion to Mac Papers envelope converting facility in Jacksonville and a (sorely needed) visit to Ponce de Leon’s Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park.
