PRINT 13 Product Preview
The new KM-1/IS29 Inkjet Press will be shown as a technology preview by Konica Minolta Busines Solutions. The color digital press processes cut-sheet pages up to B2 size. Combining Konica Minolta's UV inkjet technology with Komori's paper handling technology, the KM-1/IS29 offers fast output, superior color quality and reliable digital throughput.
Xerox will showcase its iGen4 Diamond Edition, which delivers time-saving, automated features, including a 26˝ stacker and color maintenance tool, taking the complexity and manual labor out of analyzing colors. In addition, automatic image-to-paper setup replaces manual setups with an automated routine, eliminating time-consuming paper registration adjustments.
Ricoh Americas will present the 80-ppm Ricoh Pro C5100S/C5110S compact production color printers, offering the latest textured media technology and a unique media library for quality images. The Ricoh Pro 8100s production monochrome MFP series meets production print needs with 200 ipm duplex color scanning, VCSEL imaging and Ricoh's Mechanical Paper Registration.
The American-made XD070 Industrial Inkjet Printer, featured by Pad Print Machinery, is ideal for variable image data, fine lines and details. Features include a full CMYK+W single-pass conveyor system.
HP will introduce an offset-quality, digital press in a B2 size format: the HP Indigo 10000 Digital Press. Combining HP Indigo quality with substrate flexibility, the 29˝ press prints at speeds of up to 3,450 sheets/hr. in full-color, and up to 4,600 sheets/hr. in Enhanced Productivity Mode.
The Fujifilm Onset Q40i was developed to address the growing market for an ultra-high-quality wide-format flatbed printer that is capable of delivering high production speeds. This technology produces offset-print-quality images and fine text with a low ink profile.
Roland will be showcasing its SOLJET Pro 4 XF-640—the company's fastest large-format inkjet printer. The next-generation Pro 4 XF-640 ushers in a new era of speed and performance, delivering images at speeds up to 1,098 sq. ft./hr.
Adphos North America PBTs (Platen Based Transports) are companion products for x-y inkjet plotters. They allow for "production" drying, sintering and curing in a lab-scale device. Two configurations are available, with both stationary and motor-driven platens. Both include vacuum plate and air hold-down to maintain product integrity during processing.
The Pitney Bowes Print+ Response Inkjet Module prints 100 percent variable business reply envelopes, correspondence return envelopes or inserts in-line during high-speed inserting and wrapping. The solution leverages Print+ technology and blank envelopes or enclosure material to print personalized, monochrome or full-color, high-resolution business reply envelopes or inserts at speeds up to 26,000 pieces/hr.
Leading inkjet, MIS/ERP and DFE workflow technologies will be featured by EFI, including the VUTEk GS2000LX LED UV and HS100 Pro UV printers. Show debuts include the Fiery Go iOS app and new versions and options for EFI's Fiery, Monarch, Auto-Count, IQuote and Digital StoreFront workflow products.
AnaJet is introducing its mPower i-series direct-to-garment printer. The i-series boasts durable stainless steel print heads, patented ink delivery and robust RIP software. AnaJet printers can faithfully reproduce full color digital images up to 1,200 dpi onto t-shirts, canvas bags and other products. The mPower mP5i and mP10i models represent a significant step up in durability and performance over the original mPower, with improvements in ink delivery, less ink consumption and waste, more durable valves, pumps and print head maintenance components and software enhancements for greater efficiency.
Komori OnDemand will be on display with a Lithrone SX29 equipped with KHS-AI software and the H-UV curing system. Highly intelligent KHS-AI software enables minimal makeready waste and extremely fast job cycle times. When combined with Komori's H-UV system that delivers bindery-ready sheets, the press is ideal for fast turnaround, high quality, short-run printing.
KBA North America will promote the new KBA Rapida 164 press. The 64.5˝-format press runs at a maximum output of 16,000 sph with the press of two buttons. Additional high-level automation includes DriveTronic SIS sidelay-free infeed, automatic plate changing and the optional DriveTronic SPC dedicated drives at the plate cylinders, which support simultaneous plate changes at all printing units in only 100 seconds.
Standard Finishing Systems will launch the Standard Horizon BQ-280PUR Perfect Binder, which offers single-clamp, PUR perfect binding in a compact footprint. The BQ-280 is specially designed to handle production of digitally printed books, personalized photobooks, smaller sample runs and other short-run work. Features include an elevator delivery system, a large color touchscreen and automated setup.
The 234 d BP from W+D North America is reportedly the world's fastest true industrial-grade, four-color (DOD) inkjet envelope overprint press that offers offset-competitive print quality. It prints a range of envelopes, as well as common business applications, including letterhead, stationery, business cards, postcards and tags at speeds to 60,000/hour.
The DC-646 slitter/cutter/creaser will debut from Duplo USA. Ideal for short-to-medium runs, it eliminates white borders and prevents unattractive fold lines in a variety of digitally printed applications. To succeed the DC-645 model, the DC-646 offers a range of new features for enhanced productivity.
With a cutting width of 187⁄8˝, the Triumph 4860 ET Programmable Cutter from MBM Corp. is perfectly suited to the digital market. An intuitive touchpad module controls the backgauge and stores 99 programs in memory. Patented two-step blade activation bars feature separate trigger points for the blade and clamp, and the SCS safety package includes an IR beam curtain.
The Sterling Digibinder Plus, offered by Spiel Associates, is a fully automated perfect binder. The pneumatic clamp and nipper adjust automatically. The unique roughing blade roughs and notches the entire backbone of the book, allowing for the binding of coated and oil-infused stocks. For producing pads or book blocks for hardcover binding, users can go from thick books to thin books without any adjustments. Bind up to 360 books/hr. at up to 2.25˝ thick.
The JETvarnish 3D inkjet spot UV coater from MGI Digital Graphic Technology provides users with two digital finishing capabilities: traditional spot UV coating and 3D raised effects, with no plates or screens required. New options include the Twin upgrade, which doubles 3D effects coating speed (up to 3,000 20x29˝ sheets/hr. in spot UV, and up to 2,234 12x18˝ sheets/hr. in 3D mode) and doubles the coating thickness in one pass (up to 200 microns).
The Challenge Machinery Co.'s new TC Control system will be in production and on display. This feature-rich, 11˝ color touchscreen system is an easy-to-use controller for all Titan and Champion paper cutters.
The latest version of Morgana Systems' DigiBook 300 PUR binder will be exhibited for the first time in the U.S. at PRINT 13. Well known in Europe, the unit can produce up to 300 8.5x11˝ books per hour. A patented solution controls the application of the PUR glue with a sealed nozzle system. This makes DigiBook 300 quick and effective to set up and shut down. The machine will be shown producing a range of both digitally printed and litho printed jobs on coated stock.
The improved DocuPunch MK2, showcased by Spiral James Burn, now offers an icon-based digital touchpad control that simplifies setup and operation. By offering variable cycle speeds and pick thickness, the DocuPunch provides trouble-free production on a wide range of stocks. Just the size of a copy machine and with no special power requirements, the DocuPunch sets up in less than a minute.
Colter & Peterson will introduce its 57˝ dual rotary precision knife sheeter. Featuring an innovative, modular design and Siemens electronics, it cuts up to 900 ft./min. with ±0.010˝ cutoff accuracy, develops 57˝-high skids and has slitter capability.
Multiple new equipment and accessories solutions for scoring/creasing, perforating and slitting will be showcased at Baum's booth. Also highlighted will be several advancements in the floor-model folding product line, BaumCut guillotine cutters with workflow connectivity features and the all-new BaumPrint 18 UV press.
The sleek, new Spire line of wide-format laminators will be showcased by GBC. Eight all-steel models, available in thermal and cold versions, meet the finishing requirements for operators of any skill level.
The C.P. Bourg BB3202 automatic in-line EVA or PUR perfect binder is designed to produce softcover books on-demand from single or multiple digital, analog or mixed workflows. To capitalize on its sheetfed operation, the BB3202 compiles and stacks pages into book blocks automatically, under program control.
A continuous, sheetfed rotary diecutting solution will be introduced by the Rollem International Die Cutting Div. The Delta, utilizing magnetic cylinders and dies, features very quick changeovers. It is available in two sizes: a digital 17x21˝ sheet capacity, as well as a B2, 24x30˝ sheet capacity model.
MBO America will debut the MBO 30˝ M80 Flexible Folding Machine with modular add-on design capabilities. It can be reconfigured after purchase with the capability to add or interchange certain components according to a customer's specific needs. Other finishing lines will also be demonstrated live, including a Pop-up Mailer solution and a space-saving Star Wheel Tapper.
The Diamond Hard Velvet Matte Finish from D&K Group is available on all laminating films and offers a scuff-resistant surface that is haze-free and soft to the touch. This finish is ideal for publishing, packaging and labeling applications, as well as digital graphics and other print finishing.
Gateway Bookbinding Systems will unveil its Total Koil Binder, a compact machine with combined roller insertion for thinner books and spine forming placement for the thicker books up to 50mm. It is ideal for use with Gateway's Total Cut & Bend machine, a dual-sided crimper. Usd together, production speeds are 200-300 books per hour for a thinner project and 60-100 books for 35mm to 50mm coil diameters.
Designed to make a longer-lasting impression, Pro-Bind's hardcovers are ideal for yearbooks, photobooks and memorial books. They can be printed digitally or offset, silkscreened or foil stamped. With the adhesive glue strip pre-applied to the spine, the hardcovers come ready to use.
VersaPUR slug melters, from Nordson Corp., enable simple, efficient PUR adhesive processing of 20-kilogram, foil-encased polyurethane slugs for perfect binding applications. A sealed tank and melt-on-demand technology protect adhesive bonding integrity for high-quality, durable books. The user-friendly touchscreen and easy-to-clean features simplify setup, operation and maintenance.
Drylam will be introducing and demonstrating the ALM 3222 fully automatic laminator for digitally printed sheets. The upgraded system will automatically feed, laminate and trim sheets, with no labor.
QDirect 5.0 will be exhibited by Rochester Software Associates. A new job ticketing UI allows users to apply or edit job tickets for most major production printers. Increase automation with expanded JDF/JMF capabilities, among other highlights.
Avanti Slingshot, a next generation Print Management Information System, incorporates business intelligence (CRM, dashboards and reporting), production planning (estimating, planned purchasing, sales orders and inventory management), fulfillment, shipping and billing in a modular and scalable system.
The new iQueue 8 Ultimate Digital Color Workflow from Xanté features a unique, all-in-one RIP workflow with advanced color editing, file management and print quality controls designed specifically for digital color printing. New features include the variable data/sequential numbering, QR Code generator, spot color matching, dual screening option and more.
Inspire Dynamic Statement from GMC Software Technology delivers rich, intuitive charts, graphs and other graphical representations of customer financial information through interactive, digital customer statements. Customers can drill down to a granular level of detail. The statements can be viewed on any PC, tablet or smartphone.
Van Son Holland Ink will display its Supreme series, which boasts a fast setting time, unparalleled rub resistance, press stability and radiant colors. In addition, Van Son will showcase its Wide Format Inkjet Ink line, which serves a wide range of digital printers such as Mimaki, Roland, Mutoh, Epson and HP.
Mark Andy will feature its Versa Max mid-web, in-line flexo press for short-run film and flexible packaging applications, in addition to a narrow web flexo offering, Performance Series. Its latest business division, Mark Andy Print Products, will also be introduced.
GPA, Specialty Substrate Solutions, will debut its newest Ultra Digital substrates: a comprehensive offering of papers, films and pressure-sensitive papers for toner digital presses; an array of pre-converted papers for specialty boxes and other applications; holographic rainbow foil board; and silver photo lustre paper, security paper for counterfeit-resistant applications.
Compact Foilers will showcase the CF-1000 Compact Foiler, a floor-mounted, portable module that can be used for cold foiling and creating special 3D varnish effects in multiple locations.
Diversified Graphic Machinery (DGM) will showcase its Foildex cold foil application equipment featuring unique foil-saving devices, including the indexing of cold foil in the press running direction. This, coupled with the ability to run multiple webs of foil across the width of the press, creates a cost-effective system.
The Masterwork USA Duopress foil stamping and diecutting machine with stripping is designed as a one-pass, integrated system, combining the platen through the embossing and foil stamping onto the diecutting and stripping functions. The two-platen system creates high-quality packaging at a maximum output speed of 6,000 sheets/hr.
Cosmo Films will be showcase its newest smaller-format laminator, the 7580. For medium- and high-volume finishing environments, the laminator integrates a state-of-the-art MABEG feeder and pneumatically controlled separator.
At Dynafold USA's booth will be a small paper folder that complements its Tabbler mail tabbing machine. The Tabbler applies a piece of tape to an outgoing folded piece, creating an outgoing mailer. They provide small mailers with a cost-effective opportunity to take full advantage of direct mail benefits.
FlexCoat-EZT, highlighted by Arnold Magnetic Technologies, utilizes a strong magnetic sheet coated with a printable surface that is compatible with the most popular printing methods. It is easy to print, cut and display.
ProImage will introduce TabellaNews, a cloud-based solution for the creation of digital publications for tablet and other mobile devices. TabellaNews enables the automatic delivery of content from any content management system. The content is analyzed and automatically processed through ProImage's content mapping and template technology to produce a digital edition.
In response to market demand for a high quality, glossy coated paper capable of running at the high speed of today's inkjet printing presses, Mitsubishi Paper Mills will introduce its SWORD iJET 4.3 Gloss. It dries quickly and provides excellent color and ink absorption.
The NW140 digital UV narrow web press with Spartanics in-line laser cutting will be highlighted by INX International Ink. It offers UV-LED cure, single-pass output up to 80 ft./min. on any label stock and supports media up to 2mm thick.
GP2 Technologies will showcase its Cover-1 casemaking system, providing live demonstrations of one-off cover production. The Cover-1 features a barcode-driven size change and automated material preparation for production of POD hardcovers, from one book to a thousand.
GammTech Corp. will present its GammStack 1M indexing, compensating stacker. This stacker features patented, servo-driven indexing grids, which virtually eliminate product drop while the bundle is forming, resulting in a bundle that never requires re-jogging. The welded steel frame and robust construction ensure long machine life, and the intuitive operator interface makes setup quick and easy.
The LaserSharp On-Demand Finishing System, featured by LasX Industries, streamlines the manufacturing of folding cartons and related products. Integrated digital printing, laser cutting and folding/gluing processes help reduce costs and increase productivity, all while maintaining a small footprint.
EAM-Mosca will introduce its ROMP-6 Evolution walk-up bundler. Equipped with a thermostatically controlled heat sealer or Sonixs ultrasonic welding technology, it features DC motors and simplified mechanics to reduce noise, wear and maintenance requirements. Other features include a compact cabinet, a 180° rotatable operator panel and optional second foot bar for front and rear operation.
Rotoflex will highlight Rotoflex VLI, an inspection/rewind solution with expanded capabilities; the URC 2.0 control system; and the Rotoflex Tracker finishing solution, a slitter/rewinder with a horizontal web path that complements the vertical web path typically found in Rotoflex products.
G&K-Vijuk International's MV-11 Double Knife Outsert System with 18-plate Station I, space-saving (up to 40 percent) UM 90 Turn Station and CM Inspection Station precisely folds outserts with up to 190 panels. Triple or Single Knife Outsert Systems that fold up to 266 or 110 panels, respectively, are available. Also featured will be the GUK FA 74/54 Commercial Folder capable of speeds up to 42,500 letter-size sheets/hr.
For use with any saddlestitcher, perfect-binder or co-mailer, the MPA-VVS automatic palletizing unit, highlighted by Segbert GmbH, stacks variable-height bundles to almost equal height bundles and thus enables automatic palletizing of any ZIP code-sorted mailstream at up to 50 bundles/min.
After three years of development, Eagle Systems will introduce its most innovative technology for savings in cold foil: Eagle Foil Sync. Field tested, approved and running at press speed, it enables the re-use of foil in areas that were not possible before.
