Former Vertis Plant Doesn't Survive Second Cut
MEDINA, OH—Four years ago, the former American Color Graphics printing plant here was scheduled to be closed, but a last-minute reprieve by owner Vertis Communications kept the facility humming. But, when it wasn't included in the acquisition of Vertis by Quad/Graphics, it appeared that it would only be a matter of time before the facility was closed or sold elsewhere.
The "matter of time" proved to be this week, as Vertis announced it would close the Medina plant on May 1, the Medina Post reported. About 52 employees will lose their jobs. The Medina plant joins closed Vertis operations in Dallas, New Jersey and Fort Erie (Stevensville), Ontario, Canada, that weren't included in the Quad acquisition, which was finalized recently.
At the time the Medina plant was spared in 2009, it employed an estimated 165 workers.
