Ranking of the Largest In-plants

North America is home to some very large in-plants. They serve government agencies, religious institutions, insurance companies, universities, health care providers, and other organizations.

To get a better understanding of these operations, we reached out to the very largest and ranked them according to the number of full-time employees and annual sales. Then we analyzed trends at the largest in-plants during the pandemic, looking at changes in staff size and revenue, the growth of wide-format signage, equipment upgrade plans, and more.

Some things that stand out on our 2020 lists:

• The five in-plants that generate the most annual revenue are government printers.
• Three of the in-plants with the most employees are religion-based in-plants.
• Two of the top 10 reported sales increases of nearly $1 million over last year's numbers.
• Higher-ed in-plants make up more than 45% of both lists.
