The past year has brought a number of changes to our annual ranking of the largest higher-ed in-plants. Six of the top 10 on our list have increased their revenues over the past year, resulting in some reshuffling of the ranks.
The University of Oklahoma is now tied for the top spot in our ranking by annual sales with Brigham Young University, each boasting $14.5 million in annual sales. Also, Yale University jumped ahead of the University of Washington to claim the No. 4 ranking, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln pushed the University of Missouri out of the No. 9 spot.
In our ranking by the number of employees, the changes were more dramatic. Penn State bumped the University of Oklahoma out of the No. 3 spot, the University of Nebraska - Lincoln jumped from eighth to fifth on the list, and Iowa State, the University of Tennessee and Yale all climbed onto the top 10 list for the first time, pushing the University of North Texas, the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Missouri down to 11, 12 and 13, respectively.
