Ole Miss In-plant Helps Presidential Debate Shine
When the University of Mississippi was picked to host the first U.S. Presidential Debate, school officials knew exactly where to turn for the printing of media kits, programs and invitations. They went immediately to their in-plant.
“Our administration recognized and recommended the use of our facilities because of their confidence in us to produce the highest quality printed piece within the timetables demanded,” notes Tony Seaman, director of Printing and Graphic Services. “This was certainly an honor for us to be thought of so highly.”
The Oxford, Miss.-based in-plant used its new Kodak NexPress 2100 Plus to print many of these pieces, employing Kodak’s Dimensional Clear Dry Ink to enhance their look and feel. The ink creates a raised effect that gives images a dimensional feel that mimics the surface of the items in a photograph.
“Some of the printed material we are producing will end up as souvenirs,” remarks Seaman. “The unique effects we add with Dimensional Clear Dry Ink certainly make those pieces stand out.”
The 17-employee shop also used its four-color Akiyama Bestech 428 along with a Xerox 4110 to produce the large volume of materials needed for the debate. Among the pieces printed were the official media press kit, including a die-cut, glued pocket folder with sheets coil bound into the folder; the official sponsors’ program; the official debate program; admittance tickets; special invitations; parking/shuttle information sheets and maps; laminated parking passes; posters and fliers; a souvenir postcard collection; and much more.
“Some material was ordered weeks in advance, some was wanted within a matter of hours, some ‘while you wait,’” remarks Seaman. “I am very proud of every member of our staff as we designed pieces, printed, bound and delivered material on an almost hourly basis during the few days prior to the event.”
