PRINT 13 Courts In-plants Again
Suddenly it’s cool to be an in-plant. Over the past couple of years, graphic arts trade shows have made an extra effort to attract in-plant managers, and next month’s PRINT 13 show will continue that trend.
The seminar program at the Chicago show (September 8-12) will feature a whole track just for in-plants, and several lunches and receptions will provide managers with additional opportunities to get informed, network and eat.
Why such a fuss? “Corporate, government and educational printing operations make up a very substantial and important segment of the total graphic communications industry,” explains Graphic Arts Show Co. President Ralph Nappi. “At PRINT 13 they will be able to find the technology, information, guidance and networking opportunities they will need to keep their operations running smoothly and efficiently.”
One of the biggest attractions will be a free lunch hosted by IPG. Not only can in-plant managers relax and network with one another, but they will get an in-plant industry overview from Editor Bob Neubauer and hear from Tawsha Bone-Worrall, of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, who will discuss the tools and processes UPMC uses to gain control and insight, monitor external print spending and maximize the efficiency of its print center. Sponsored by Rochester Software Associates (RSA), the lunch event takes place on Monday, September 9 from 12:15-1:15 in room S106A. Register for the lunch here.
Later that day, from 3:30–5:00 p.m. Xerox is hosting a roundtable exclusively for in-plant print leaders. Touted as an "intimate, interactive discussion" it will feature Jim Hamilton, Group Director of Production Hardware Consulting at InfoTrends, and Bob Tapella, President of GreensheetBIZ and former U.S. Public Printer. It will take place in room N227A. Register here.
For those managers still hungry (for more education), the In-Plant Printing and Mailing Association is holding its own lunch event the next day, Tuesday, September 10, from 12:15 to 1:45. Titled “In-plant Trends & Best Practices,” the session will be moderated by InfoTrends’ Charlie Corr and will feature in-plant success stories told by customers of Kodak, Konica Minolta and RSA, the event’s sponsors.
IPMA is also hosting a booth on the show floor called InPlant Place (booth 4637) where in-plants can gather and talk shop. On Tuesday at 4:00 that booth will be the scene of The In-plant Game, where managers can answer questions and compete for prizes. RSA is partnering with IPMA for the game, and its booth next door (4634) will be holding a reception at the same time (and on Monday and Wednesday as well).
In addition to these activities, and the multitude of graphic arts products on display at the show, in-plant managers can attend seven seminars covering important in-plant issues:
