Digital Printing Equipment
Canon USA will highlight the new Océ VarioPrint i300 sheetfed color inkjet press (previously known as Niagara). It prints up to 294 duplexed letter images/min. and targets print volumes of 1 to 10 million letter images/month. The VarioPrint i300 combines the advantages of high productivity and low running cost with the sheetfed versatility of white paper-in, full-color-out workflows. The VarioPrint i300 will be shown at Graph Expo via video demonstrations, and print samples will be available.
Xerox will showcase its portfolio of technologies and solutions to help print providers automate workflows, produce high-value jobs and take advantage of opportunities in today’s graphic communications marketplace. An array of digital color printing technology, including high-speed inkjet systems and the next-generation iGen platform, will be introduced.
Ricoh Americas will present its 5th Color Kit for the Ricoh Pro C7100X digital press series, which provides a valuable collection of practical applications—including tickets, fliers, badges and more—that printers can use to demonstrate eye-catching five-color output.
Focusing on solutions and services from both hardware and software, Konica Minolta Business Solutions USA will exhibit its new “Integrated Services” portfolio. This portfolio includes IT services, workflow assessment service, marketing as a service, EngageIT XMedia and VDP, color management services and Web-to-print as a service.
Xanté will present the Impressia Digital Press with the Enterprise SL Feeder, which features rapid print speeds (78 full-color envelopes/min.) with crisp color quality (2,400 dpi) for less than 1 cent/envelope. Xanté’s iQueue Workflow offers spot color matching, variable data and more.
OKI Data will present the C941e digital color printer, which brings improved media handling capabilities plus an optional envelope feeder. The LED five-station toner configuration includes CMYK plus white or clear. In addition, OKI will debut another five-station device with white, and demonstrate its C711DW digital label press with finishing system.
The HP Indigo 7800 digital press will be spotlighted by HP. This press provides simplified color management, improved productivity and an expanded application range. Offering direct printing on synthetic substrates with One Shot Color technology, the new press enables PSPs to print high-value applications, such as overlays and premium postcards.
Neopost USA will exhibit the HD-CX1700, a modular, graphics-oriented five-color printer, designed and priced for in-house applications and built on a production platform. The fifth color can be either white or clear toner, providing the ability to print white text or full-color graphics on dark media. Clear toner can be used to apply a full varnish or selectively to accent sections or simulate an embossed effect.
MGI USA will demonstrate the new integrated DP1000 and DF Pro high-speed (100 pages/min.) digital production printing press and finishing solution (multiple cuts, creases, perforations and trims), and the new iFOIL T toner-based digital foiling and finishing system integrated in-line with the Meteor digital press series.
The Xeikon 9800 digital color press will be demonstrated. The press prints at a top speed of 70.5 ft./min. with a five-over-five color configuration. It is capable of printing on both sides of the substrate simultaneously. The Xeikon 9800 has a 1,200x3,600-dpi imaging resolution and can handle substrate weights from 40gsm up to 300gsm.
Running daily will be W+D North America’s four-color envelope overprint press, the W+D 234d. The piezo drop-on-demand technology prints up to 30,000 #10 envelopes/hr. at 600x600 dpi with four grey levels, the visual equivalent of 1,000 dpi. At 600x300 dpi (visual equivalent of 700 dpi) 60,000 #10 envelopes are printed per hour. It has a multi-feeder size range from 3.2x4.5˝ to 10x13˝ and easily handles papers from 16-lb. to 90-lb. bond basis weight.
Wide-format
Epson will showcase its wide-format digital imaging solutions, including the 44˝ and 64˝ SureColor F-Series dye-sub printers for high-quality results in the roll-to-roll fabric market, as well as the SureColor S-Series 64˝ solvent machines, which provide reliability, durability and image quality to the signage, vehicle graphics, fine art and packaging markets.
Roland DGA will showcase its new VersaUV LEJ-640FT flatbed UV printer, an industrial-strength inkjet printer featuring the ability to print directly on substrates up to 6˝ thick and weighing up to 220 lbs. Along with CMYK, it boasts white and clear coat inks for incorporating dimensional effects.
Mutoh America will display the ValueJet 426UF, which prints on a variety of materials, including 3D objects, up to 2.75˝ thick, with Mutoh’s 100 percent solid LED-UV ink. Users can print limitless promotional items with up to six-color capability, including white and varnish ink, and the press features Smart Printing technologies, such as the Intelligent Interweave print technique.
PriscoDigital LLC will introduce the 98˝-wide HP Scitex FB750 inkjet printer. Compared to the previous FB700, the HP Scitex FB750 offers a new tabletop roll holder design, greatly enhanced image quality, the ability to print full-bleed on up to four different sizes of rigid media across the printing, and a 12 percent productivity increase when using the indoor signage print mode.
Computer-to-plate
Presstek will showcase its Presstek GemPlate, a true chemistry-free, develop-on-press thermal plate. Once imaged, GemPlate is mounted directly on press where fountain solution and ink remove the plate’s unexposed areas, leaving the polymerized, hardened, exposed ink-receptive image areas unaffected.
Kodak is announcing the Kodak Trendsetter Q2400/Q3600, a large plate-format thermal platesetter featuring Kodak Squarespot imaging technology. Additionally, the Power of 7 will be unleashed: Kodak Prinergy Workflow 7 delivers Preflight+ and improved Layered PDF Versioning. Kodak Insite Prepress 7 brings secure 24/7 Web access to Prinergy Workflow 7.
Presenting an expanded portfolio, Mitsubishi Imaging will showcase the CRON-ECRM UV CTP Series, a conventional CTP option within its polyester and paper platesetter product line. This metal plate imaging system offers flexible configurations, 16 to 96 liquid cooled diode channels that can produce up to 75 plates/hr. for varying customer requirements. With a linear magnetic drive for friction-free movement, mix-and-match components to run fully automated to manual and a wide range of plate formats (26-72˝), the CRON-ERCM is an economical solution for the offset CTP mid-size print market.
Finishing
The Standard Hunkeler DP8 Dynamic Punch and Perforation Module presented by Standard Finishing Systems runs in-line with any continuous-feed digital or inkjet press, where the pre-printed or white paper roll is unwound and processed into finished output (stacks, book blocks, booklets or direct mail pieces), or rewound to a roll for additional finishing. The DP8 will add dynamic perforation and punching patterns that can vary from sheet to sheet, providing additional flexibility for direct mail, transpromo and transactional applications.
The Sterling Wiremaster Pro, presented by Spiel Associates, combines economy and complete automation. The Wiremaster Pro is a fully automatic, double-loop wire binder capable of binding books at 3,000 books/hr. It changes over in about 30 minutes. The operator drops a book on the conveyor and the Wiremaster Pro does the rest. It cuts and inserts the wire, closes the wire and delivers the book onto a conveyor. An automatic cover flipper is also available.
The Aerocut and Aerocut G2 finishing systems to be displayed by MBM Corp. now feature the Lytrod Software VisionDP Solution Bundle. The software allows variable data to be designed and composed directly onto templates, and prepares documents for fast and efficient finishing on the MBM Aerocut and Aerocut G2.
Highlighted by Rollem International, new Insignia Series sheetfed flexo-magnetic rotary diecutters are ideal for producing labels, packaging and unique mail. At 5,000 sheets/hr., Insignia diecuts, kiss-cuts, perfs and cut-scores papers, plastics and magnetics up to 24-pt. in thickness. Two sizes: I5 20x15˝ and I7 30x24˝ will be shown.
James Burn International will present an upgraded DocuPunch PLUS automatic punch. It’s very easy to use: load the paper, turn it on using the digital keypad, and walk away. Ergonomically designed, it offers hands-free punching of pre-collated books, presentations, reports and even tabbed sheets (documents up to 13˝ wide). With 110v power and heavy-duty casters, the unit can be set up in minutes, runs at top speeds of 75 cycles/min. and is capable of producing up to 77,000+ punched sheets/hr.
The RAS-mc will be introduced by Therm-O-Type as the first right angle slitter that combines high-throughput speed with product size flexibility. With quick change, fixed size or auto adjust cassettes, product size changeover can be completed in less than two minutes without tools.
The new Prism P115 45˝ cutter from Colter & Peterson offers the latest automation and electronics, complete with a slotless table and 15˝ Microcut computerized touchscreen.
VersaPUR slug melters from Nordson Corp. enable simple, efficient PUR adhesive processing of 20-kilogram, foil-encased polyurethane slugs for perfect binding applications. The easy-to-clean system features a sealed tank and melt-on-demand technology to protect adhesive bonding integrity for high-quality, durable books. A user-friendly touchscreen simplifies setup, operation and maintenance.
KBA North America will introduce VariDry LED-UV, which is designed for small- to large-format commercial and packaging printers. The instant cure-to-print system offers very low energy costs to power LED-UV, the flexibility to easily move LED-UV lamps interchangeably on-press, and multiple environmental and safety benefits.
Software
Rochester Software Associates will showcase its WebCRD in-plant Web-to-print software that sends jobs directly to production printers without re-ticketing. Release V10 further automates workflows and reduces costs. New features include visual job ticketing for simplified ordering, AutoFlow+, production auditing, configurable production statuses, integration with RSA’s Ready-Print makeready and more.
Avanti Systems will feature Avanti Slingshot’s Automated Press Sheet Optimizer, which processes ganging criteria and calculates the optimal layout in an estimate or sales order, regardless of who is doing the planning, for consistent estimating and production planning. It reduces manpower, prep time, makereadies and press wash-up, for better control of materials and resources, and reduced waste/spoilage.
edu Business Solutions will exhibit its flagship Web-to-print solution, Print Shop Pro. In addition, Print Shop Pro Mail, which tracks mailing service requests, and Design Conductor, a Web-based tool for creating marketing materials, will be introduced.
Solimar Systems will showcase Chemistry Enterprise Dashboard, which provides real-time visibility into document production processes enabling control, accountability and management of customer communications including omnichannel distribution. The modular software solution brings true end-to-end tracking, allowing organizations to quickly gain insight into their production operations, and improving efficiencies while supporting better business decisions.
A variety of technologies will be showcased by EFI, including: the new EFI Productivity Suite end-to-end workflow; the new, faster EFI Fiery FS200 digital front-end (DFE) platform; and the EFI H1625 65˝ LED hybrid roll/flatbed printer. The EFI Fiery FS200 Pro DFE features four parallel RIPs, plus a fifth “Rush RIP” to move urgent jobs ahead in the production queue.
Pitney Bowes will display the Relay Communications Hub, a Web-based, multi-channel communications suite designed to enhance transactional communications, while providing client data privacy and meeting regulatory requirements. This cloud-based digital hub helps create accurate communications, direct in-house or off-site production, and deliver communications through physical or digital channels.
StoreFlow cloud software will be featured by XMPie to drive more business with Web-to-print and improve the print buying experience. XMPie will also present uMerge, a software plug-in to Adobe InDesign CC, for graphic communicators to create document templates that can be used to generate personalized or customized printed pieces.
PressWise by SmartSoft will showcase the latest enhancements to the all-in-one Web-to-print MIS and workflow automation system. Improvements to the print estimating tools, job editor, Web storefronts, job reporting tools and third-party API enhancements are just a few of the features the PressWise team will demonstrate.
Substrates
Mohawk will be showing a new digital synthetic film designed for a variety of everyday, durable applications. Mohawk Performance Polyester is available in 5, 8, 10 and 14 mil calipers in a 93 bright white shade for printing on dry toner presses.
DigiMaxx direct-printable, flexible magnetic media designed for large-format signage, graphics and high-yield cut pieces will be featured by Magnum Magnetics. DigiMaxx is the only super-wide magnetic media (above 40˝ wide) made in the United States, with 40˝ and 48˝ media available in stock and custom sizes.
