High-specification sheet-fed offset lithographic presses from RMGT (Ryobi MHI Graphic Technology) are being placed in U.S. print shops at a rate of more than one per month. That strong momentum is carrying RMGT to Dallas, Texas, as an exhibitor at the new PRINTING United trade exposition.
RMGT presses will be running live at the October 23-25, 2019 event, a showcase of technologies and applications from all segments of the graphic communications industry. PRINTING United’s broad scope, says Chris Manley, President of Graphco, “makes it more customer-centric” from an attendee’s point of view and therefore “automatically more successful for us” as exhibitors.
Graphco is part of Graphic Systems North America (GSNA), a network of distributors representing RMGT in North America. Helping to drive sales is what Manley terms the “cross-pollination” of the industry: a push by printers to enter untapped markets by adding new production capabilities to the ones they already have.
One Graphco customer has done it, Manley notes, by bringing a five-color RMGT 9-Series commercial press into what had been almost an entirely wide-format operation for signage. He says that today, offset represents a significant and highly profitable segment of this customer’s overall business.
PRINTING United calls it “convergence,” and convergence as an industry-wide trend will be the keynote of the event. PRINTING United, a joint venture of the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) and NAPCO Media, is a brand-new event offering a much-needed fresh perspective on how printers can profit in whatever segments they choose to enter.
That emphasis, Manley believes, spells opportunities for attendees and exhibitors alike. “A trade show ought to be about the customer experience as much as ours as manufacturers,” he says. “Being in a venue with buyers from multiple verticals is very appealing.” He adds that the show’s Dallas location, a new site for print trade shows, should spur both attendance and exhibitor participation.
PRINTING United is the successor to SGIA Expo, the industry’s premier showcase for graphic and visual communications. It will follow SGIA’s final edition in Las Vegas (October 18-20, 2018), where RGMT also is exhibiting.
PRINTING United will be accompanied by BRAND United, a co-located learning experience aimed at brand owners, marketers, and other consumers of the B2B products and services that PRINTING United will showcase. In this way, the event will address needs and opportunities throughout the entire print and omnichannel value chain.
