When Printing Industries of America joined forces with the Graphic Arts Technical Foundation in 1999, the combined trade association/educational organization kept both acronyms when it renamed itself PIA/GATF. On Wednesday, the second half of that name was dropped for good as the organization rechristened itself Printing Industries of America. The goal, according to PIA officials, was to strengthen and streamline messaging to the graphic communications industry.
Along with the name change came a new logo, tag line and URL.
"The new tagline, 'Advancing Graphic Communications,' captures the organization's innovative, forward-thinking approach," notes Michael Makin, president and CEO of Printing Industries of America.
The Web site will change from www.GAIN.net to www.printing.org. In 2009, it will be revitalized and re-launched with more user-friendly format.
Additionally, the organization's two bi-monthly magazines—GATFWorld and Management Portfolio—will be combined into a new publication titled Printing Industries of America: The Magazine.
