New offset presses have been going in at in-plants all over the country lately. The latest addition is a five-color RMGT Series 9 offset press, recently installed at the University of Missouri - Columbia. It has a coater and uses LED UV cured inks. It replaces a six-color 40˝ Heidelberg Speedmaster 102, which went in back in 1998.
To promote the capabilities of this new press, University of Missouri Print & Mail Services held an open house last week that drew about 120 visitors from department like Marketing, Hospital Marketing, Alumni, Enrollment Management, and Student Affairs, plus some visitors from the Missouri State Printing operation.
Attendees got a tour of the in-plant and watched the new press in action. There was food, giveaway items like university-branded promotional material and posters (featuring UV gloss coating, courtesy of the new press) and some drawings for prizes. The U.S. Postal Service, Graphco and Show Me Specialties had booths in the lobby for customers to visit.
"This was a way to show off the new capabilities and some value-added coating options that are new to our in-plant along with generating some buzz and excitement about printing," says Director Jeff McNeeley. "It went really well, and our Marketing staff is very excited that their in-plant is thriving."
