NACUMS Brings 85 Managers to Tacoma
In July, about 85 university mail managers gathered in Tacoma, Wash., for the National Association of College and University Mail Services (NACUMS) conference. The event included two dozen educational sessions and roundtable discussions, a vendor exhibit area, an awards banquet and a tour of the Print and Mail Operation at the University of Washington.
Speakers covered a range of mailing topics, such as securing your mail center, merging print and mail, Full Service IMb, mailing software and the relationship between the USPS and higher education. Roundtable discussions delved into issues like empowering students, certification opportunities, creating websites, chargebacks and mailing tips. Other topics included Lean process improvement, employee motivation, digital printing trends and managing the friction between generations in the workplace.
One highlight of NACUMS was Wes Friesen, of Portland General Electric, who offered two sessions: one on how to become a more effective leader while helping others improve their effectiveness, and the other on developing powerful teams and motivating workers.
