Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) plans to overhaul its document management systems with an array of new Xerox equipment. Not only will the 56,000-student school replace laser printers, stand-alone copiers and fax machines on its four campuses with 160 new multifuction devices, it will upgrade the digital printers in its 13-employee Printing Services department.
The in-plant will swap its older Xerox DocuTech 6135 for a new model with Xerox FreeFlow MakeReady software, which will allow the shop to more easily provide variable data printing of recruitment materials. Printing Services will also receive a Nuvera printer to improve the quality of its black-and-white printing. On the color side, it will install a new Xerox DocuColor 5000 digital press and a DocuColor 242, which will be set up to provide four-color proofs for jobs run on the shop’s four-color Heidelberg MOZP press.
Xerox is helping MATC evaluate its production printing environment as well. The college will replace its fleet with two Xerox DocuTech 6135 Production Publishers. For color needs, MATC is installing a Xerox DocuColor 5000 digital press, complemented by a Xerox DocuColor 242 digital color printer/copier for short-run convenience printing. To enhance image quality, reduce processing time, and provide better storage for print-on-demand capabilities, the digitized pre-production work is controlled by Xerox FreeFlow MakeReady software. The system will also enable variable data print capabilities, letting MATC personalize student communication and recruitment efforts.
The overhaul was the result of a Xerox Office Productivity Assessment. Xerox says it will save MATC—the state’s largest technical college—about $3.5 million over five years.
