Mohawk's Chris Harrold recently had an informative conversation with Larry Westlake, executive vice president of Sandy Alexander, about printing on uncoated paper.
“If you go to press with a set of plates that aren’t adjusted for uncoated paper, your printed results will be like mud," noted Westlake. He went on to offer several useful tips to help printers get better results when printing on uncoated paper. Their conversation is available in a short video from Mohawk.
Westlake's Clifton, NJ company printed Mohawk’s Maker Quarterly #4, and in the video he details the simple adjustments his team made to ensure the outstanding print quality. Each form was printed on a different finish of Mohawk Via: Felt, Linen, Satin, Vellum and Smooth.
“Dot gain is a good thing," remarked Westlake. "Without it nothing looks vibrant.”
