The day after the In-plant Printing and Mailing Association (IPMA) conference wrapped up in Pittsburgh, a few dozen attendees stayed on to tour a local in-plant. HM Health Solutions (Highmark) opened its doors to show off its well-equipped production facility, just a few miles from downtown Pittsburgh.
The in-plant is unique in that it houses two production inkjet presses from two different manufacturers: a Ricoh Pro VC60000 and an Océ Colorstream 3900. In fact, the in-plant has two additional Colorstream 3900s in its facility in Mechanicsberg, Pa.
A spacious facility abuzz with the sound of busy printing and binding machinery, the HM Document Solutions operation employs about 60 people to run the Xerox, Canon, Ricoh and other equipment. Not only does it print the transactional materials typical of an insurance company in-plant, it produces high-quality documents like brochures, booklets, postcards, variable data direct mail pieces, patient pamphlets and much more. A large percentage of its work is done for outside clients.
Attendees were given a very thorough tour of the facility. Representatives from Xerox, Canon and Ricoh were on hand to discuss equipment capabilities and open the machines for an inside look.
