In-plant Impressions Editor Bob Neubauer has received a top award in the APEX 2021 contest, an annual competition for corporate and nonprofit publishers, editors, writers, and designers.
Neubauer’s IPI article “Second Chance Pays Off,” recounting the journey of Talmedge Hayes from prison inmate to key press operator at the Palm Beach County Graphics Division, won a Grand Award in the Writing category of the 33rd Annual APEX Awards for Publication Excellence. This is the highest award available in the competition. Neubauer was one of several Grand Award winners in different categories. Overall, the contest received 1,172 entries this year.
“I’m thrilled to receive this APEX Grand Award,” says Neubauer. “I took great care in writing about Talmedge’s struggles and accomplishments, but it was really his compelling story that made this article so memorable. I thank him for sharing his story with me, and I also thank his boss John D.L. Johnson, manager of the Palm Beach County Graphics Division, for bringing Talmedge to my attention and giving him a second chance.”
Neubauer has served as editor of IPI since 1994. While this is the sixth APEX award IPI has won over the years, it is the magazine’s first Grand Award.
