A Visit to Arapahoe County
While in Denver recently, IPG Editor Bob Neubauer dropped in on Arapahoe County Print Services, overseen by Manager Tim Mulvey (left, in photo). The four-employee in-plant averages 13 million impressions a year on its offset and digital printing equipment. This Xerox Color 800 digital press provides most of the color firepower. With Mulvey here are Justin Miller (center), bindery operator, and Andrew Estes, offset press operator.
The in-plant also employs a Nuvera 144EA with inline finishing, a Xerox 127, which handles computer room printing, a donated HP Designjet 5000ps wide-format printer, and two A.B.Dick presses, one dedicated to envelopes.
Mulvey is on a three-person panel charged with assessing the county's printers and copiers, with the goal of saving money by consolidating equipment. The city of Aurora did such an assessment two years ago and saved nearly $250,000 in just the first year, reducing its fleet from 1,200 to just 300. Arapahoe County hopes to replicate these savings. A Request for Proposals just went out to find a vendor to help the county manage its printing devices.
