"While in-plants provide the same service as their commercial counterparts—they are not in the same industry. Your in-plant is really in the industry of your parent organization," wrote Greg Cholmondeley in a 2010 column in IPG. "In-plants that view themselves as being in their parent organization’s business...will strive to maximize their parent organization’s savings."
As In-plant Market Strategist at Ricoh Americas Corp., Cholmondeley spoke similar sentiments in presentations he gave at IPMA and ACUP conferences a few years ago, urging in-plants to develop strategies to help their parent organizations meet their goals.
In 2011, however, he seemed to vanish—at least from in-plant circles. Visitors to Ricoh's booth at the conferences had to settle with reps sporting less complicated surnames.
IPG Editor Bob Neubauer caught up with Cholmondeley (pronounced "Chumly," as you'll soon hear) while in Florida recently attending the Canon Solutions America Second Anniversary event. He learned (actually, he already knew this) that Cholmondeley has been working as Director, Workflow Practice, at PODi, the Digital Printing Initiative.
As Cholmondeley points out in this new IPG video, the organization has plenty to offer in-plants looking to break into marketing services, though not many in-house printers have joined the organization, which he feels is a missed opportunity. Watch the video to learn how your in-plant can save even more money for your parent organization.
For those still longing for Cholmondeley's words of wisdom, he has just started blogging for IPG's sister publication, Printing Impressions. Here's a sample.
