Iowa In-plant Ventures into T-shirt Printing
Smart in-plants never stop looking for new services they can offer, to make themselves ever more valuable. One service offered by several in-plants is T-shirt printing. About six months ago, Iowa State University Printing & Copy Services started printing T-shirts, generating much interest from student groups and service departments at the Ames, Iowa, university.
According to a new story in InsideEdge, the newsletter for the In-Plant Printing and Mailing Association, the in-plant invested $28,000 in a DTG Viper printer, a pre-treater, and a drier, and has been concentrating on small quantities of T-shirts ranging from one to 100.
"Although initial sales have been slower than expected, inquiries are increasing and we expect this business to grow as the university community becomes more aware," writes Director Steve Weigel. "We are anticipating an increase in business this August at the beginning of the school year."
