Though Cal Poly may be a continent away from Benjamin Franklin's old stomping grounds in Boston and Philadelphia, the San Luis Obispo, CA, school keeps Ben's spirit alive each year by holding International Printing Week to commemorate Franklin's contributions to society and promote the importance of today’s printing and publishing industry. On Monday, Cal Poly’s Graphic Communication Department will kick off International Printing Week once again with a lecture series, banquet, and career fair.
The theme of this year’s International Printing Week is “GrC and Gen Z.” The Graphic Communication Industry has significantly evolved over the past few decades, and is constantly attempting to “redefine itself” with new and innovative technologies. The five-day program will delve into these changes by hosting several themed days that include:
- Monday: Business and Printing Technology Day
- Tuesday: Design and Web Media Day
- Wednesday: Packaging and Printed Electronics Day
- Thursday: Alumni and Advisory Board Day
- Friday: Career Day
A banquet will follow Thursday’s activities at the Embassy Suites located in San Luis Obispo. The keynote address will be given by Laura Lawton Forsyth, a GrC graduate, President of Lawton Printing, past Chair of the Board of Directors of Printing Industries of America, and member of the GrC Advisory Board.
