The print heads are constructed from individual chips that measure just 20mm across, yet each contains 6,400 nozzles and incorporates five color channels. Thermal ink-jet technology is used in the current generation, but McGlynn expects a mechanical version of the head to be available within three years. That would enable a wider range of ink types to be used.
