Big Changes at IPG
There have been some major changes at In-plant Graphics lately. No, I don't mean my new picture, which I'm sure has shocked those of you who assumed I hadn't aged in the past 10 years. The big news is that long-time IPG Publisher Glen Reynolds has decided to start his own business in a new industry; so beginning this month IPG has a new publisher: Mike Hempstead.
Mike is no stranger to the printing industry. He has been working for North American Publishing Co., IPG's owner, for 17 years. Though he started with Publishing Executive magazine, by 2001 he had moved onto the staff of Printing Impressions, our commercial printing magazine. He was promoted to associate publisher in 2002 and continued working to strengthen that magazine, which is now the only remaining commercial printing magazine in the country.
"From my years of working with the printing industry as the associate publisher of Printing Impressions, I've learned that in-plants are a vibrant force, providing great value to their parent organizations and saving them significant money," says Mike. "With the print industry facing so many challenges, our goal at IPG will be to continue helping in-plants strengthen their services and thrive by providing them with advice and ideas."
Mike and I will, of course, be attending Graph Expo next month, which looks like it's going to be a great show, filled with sessions and receptions just for in-plants. We hope to run into some of you at those in-plant sessions, or at our booth (number 563) on the show floor.
Having been involved with the printing industry for many years, Mike is very familiar with the technology and the vendors, so he should be able to hit the ground running. Personally, I've known Mike for a long time. We share an interest in cycling and other outdoor activities. Though he lives in Massachusetts, we've hung out together at shows like Graph Expo and Drupa over the years. I'm sure we'll work well together.
I can't end this column, though, without taking a moment to thank Glen Reynolds for his years of service to this magazine and to the in-plant industry. Though some of you may not have recognized him, he regularly attended all of the in-plant conferences and sat in on sessions to learn as much as he could about in-plants.
It's only because of Glen's hard work securing advertising support for this magazine over the past 10 years that IPG has been able to continue serving you. So I'm sure you'll join me in wishing Glen the best of luck with his new business, and I know that Mike will soon become just as ardent a supporter of the in-plant industry as Glen has been.
See you in Chicago.
