With more online commercial printers offering low prices and fast turnaround times, market competition has significantly intensified. As a result, writes Consultant Howie Fenton in a new blog post, in-plant printers face mounting pressure to match these competitive offerings, while also managing rising material costs.
“To remain viable, in-plant operations must focus on increasing automation and optimizing workflows to drive efficiency and reduce costs,” Fenton writes.
In addition to leveraging automation tools, he says, in-plants need to measure performance with key performance indicators and cross train staff to be proficient in a range of skills.
“Adding more value-added services addresses competitive needs and builds resilience against fluctuating demand,” he adds, noting that in-plants should also be looking seriously at inkjet presses.
