Perfect Binder Features Quick Setup, Changeover
The new Standard Horizon BQ-480 perfect binder, from Standard Finishing Systems, features quick setup and changeover for variable book production. It can reach a maximum speed of 800 books/hr. for book-of-one production, supporting book thicknesses from 0.04˝
to 2.56˝. Designed to meet the requirements of PUR book binding, the BQ-480 includes a gentle elevator delivery system with a 5mm drop to deliver books without damage or marking, and also accommodates the lowest temperature setting for PUR glue. With interchangeable PUR and EVA glue tanks, the binder also offers advanced automation through a movable color touchscreen including adjustments for roller height, nipping height and amount of side glue.
Pouch Board Laminator
Spiral Binding has introduced a new smooth mount pouch board laminator. The low start-up cost allows even small operations the ability to bring mounting and laminating jobs in-house. This will quickly add value to posters, prints and photos. The smooth mount laminating system is a heated roller, mounter laminator designed for simple one-step operation and is available in three widths: 27˝, 40˝ and 50˝.
Perfect Binder Ideal for Short-run Applications
The Duplo USA DB-290 perfect binder can produce up to 200 books/hr., and is ideal for short-run, on-demand applications. It provides centrally-located controls for single-operator efficiency. Simply place flat sheets into the clamp where pages are gripped
automatically and the binding process begins. A double pass over the roughening cutter provides notching for glue penetration. Its clamping and nipping system ensure consistent square binds. The DB-290 offers easy changeover to tape binding, and two different tapes sizes are available. It features new milling and notching blades along with a new side glue tank for improved glue application and binding. The side glue provides better adhesion and helps form the book spine. The clamp also features a newly redesigned double rail for enhanced binding performance.
Perfect Binder Handles Medium to Book of One
The Vareo perfect binder, from Muller Martini, can run at speeds up to 1,350 cycles per hour and with short setup times. The Vareo produces a range of products, such as photo books, personalized catalogs and high-quality brochures. The perfect binder’s three clamps are each equipped with their own servo motor, functioning independently of one another — each processing station can be individually adjusted to each product to ensure optimal quality and productivity. For example, books constructed of different materials can spend the appropriate amount of time in the nipping/pressing station without impacting overall production speeds. Other features include an automatic book block feeder, barcode recognition and exchangeable glue application systems.
Automated PUR Perfect Binder
With the Sterling DigiBinder Plus automated PUR perfect binder from Spiel Associates, the book size, the clamp (with an integrated jogger) and the nipper adjust automatically. The glue is applied by a nozzle connected to a pressurized tank with separate nozzles for side gluing. Cleanup is only five minutes at the end of the run. The PUR Plus also includes an automatic cover feeder with two double scoring wheels for hinge scoring. The Sterling DigiBinder can bind books up to 2˝ thick at speeds of up to 500 books/hr.
Dual Bin Feeder for Bookletmaking Systems
Morgana has launched the VF602 high-capacity, dual bin feeder for loading pre-collated sets from digital print engines, for both production BM2000/BM2000s and BM500/350 automated bookletmaking systems. It is designed for digital applications. The VF602 can be loaded with up to 22˝ of stock, and when one bin runs out of material, the system automatically switches to the next. The machine is capable of feeding sets with mixed stock in the set; if a set is produced with a heavier cover, the feeder is smart enough to detect this, and will calibrate the set, including cover, for the run. It comes with both ultrasonic and optical detectors, so if the set goes out of sequence it will stop production. The two-feed bins can also be fitted with barcode readers, ideal for production of sets with variable page counts.
New Folder Performs Seven Types of Folds
Martin Yale just introduced its latest paper folder: the 1811. Designed to require no pre-fanning of paper, the 1811 provides in-plants in schools, churches, businesses and associations a convenient way to automatically fold a stack of up to 300 sheets of paper. It performs seven types of folds, operating at up to 12,000 sheets per hour. The fold range is adjustable on both the first and second folds. Large rubber rollers provide consistent paper feeding, while durable conveyor belts create easy-to-handle, fanned stacks. The 1811 also folds stapled sets of papers up to five sheets through its manual bypass.
Fast, High-Volume Desktop Die Punch
GBC has introduced an improved Magnapunch Pro interchangeable die punch that features a half-second punch cycle, punching up to 49 sheets at a time. An efficient and reliable power system driven by flywheel technology converts electric energy to kinetic energy, allowing for faster acceleration and punching. The punch offers 13 interchangeable die set patterns, including a new calendar die, and also features a durable redesigned metal cover with a die set ruler and a cast aluminum base that acts as a sturdy platform for the punching mechanism. The all-metal housing on the Magnapunch also makes the unit stronger and more reliable.
